FFX county- first week of kinder and ?

If you have a dd that just finished week one, did you receive any feedback from the teacher on how they're doing. I am not looking for a book, but a simple note at the end of the week that said, "Sally is doing well" would have been nice.
We got an email on day one with a few administrative things, but other than that, nothing by email. No papers sent in the backpack either.

I am trying to see if this is the norm or not.

Sounds normal. More classroom-specific info will be made available at back-to-school night.

You aren't going to get a lot of individual feedback unless there is an issue. Email the teacher if you want, but they've barely started any assessments.

My kids are in 2nd grade at a FCPS. Every Thursday there is a yellow "information" folder that comes home. That same folder also came home on the first day. But each teacher is different. After all it was the first week of school and it's overwhelming for everyone.

I know some schools are going green and not sending home a lot of information but rather emailing. That being said, Back to School Night should be coming up soon. Ours is this Monday. At that time you will be better informed as to what you can expect from your child's specific teacher and you can raise any concerns you may have.

Thanks PPs. Good to know. DD is loving it, so that is great.

It's not like preschool. You are unlikely to get feedback on a weekly (or even regular basis). If you have questions, email the teacher (but not too often). Otherwise, no news is generally good news and they will talk to you at the conference. It's an adjustment, but you'll start to get a feel for it.

4th child just started K this week. So am used to the silence. You will not be getting weekly info on your child, just periodic information. More likely they will try to keep you informed of what's going on in the classroom, not really what your child is doing. The only exception is if your child misbehaved. And even then they will give them a week or 2 to learn the routine before they start contacting the parents about it.

I got a phone call from my child's teacher on Friday welcoming our family to Kindergarten/Back to School Night and telling me my child was doing really well.

I was pretty surprised, when I first saw the caller ID I was afraid my kid got hurt or sick, but it was really nice and a wonderful gesture to get a personal call from the teacher. (She said she was calling all the parents, btw, not sure if that was clear). I doubt this is the norm though. It was great nonetheless.

My dd is in kindergarten. It's been complete radio silence from her teacher

In elementary school, the only news is bad news. You don't want to hear from the teacher.

This has been the biggest adjustment to K for me...going from plenty of info on a daily basis to almost none. I'm told this is normal, so I will adapt, but it's been a challenge. Thanks OP, for posting the question.

DD's teacher sends a weekly newsletter home on Fridays. Though not specific to DD only, it was great to learn more about what they did last week, books they're reading, etc.

This is a crazy time for teachers. They're just so busy and trying to get everything together themselves. I'm sure an email would be responded to, but not with much information, At this point it's really hard to tell anything about the kids - if they're not doing so well, then you want to at least give them a bit of time to adjust before saying anything to that effect, and if they are doing well, then you still don't want to say much since it's really too early to tell. Formal assessments are probably also going on for the next couple of weeks, so there is a lack of concrete data anyway.

My DD has a folder that comes home nightly with a stamp if she has had a good day. There is a place for me to write comments and I sign and return it daily. Once a week the teacher writes "glows" and "grows"; areas that my DD is doing well in and those that need improvement. I am very pleased with the amount of communication between the classroom and home to date.

My sister is a teacher at an elementary school in FFX county. At her school every classroom teacher (so not the "specials") is required to call every parent/guardian in the first week to tell them something positive about their child's first week. I have two of my own kids in elementary school and this has NEVER happened for us or anyone I know, so I think her school is pretty much an anomaly.
