Local issue: Schwartz loses primary!

Carol Schwartz is one Republican I have voted for consistently. What are people's thoughts about her loss of the Republican primary?

I don't think her heart was in it this time. She conceded with only 20% of the vote in. Seems like she just wanted to get it over with.

Its a big loss, however. She was a great independent voice. Hopefully the Statehood Greens will clobber Mara.

Thank goodness not another Palin post!!!!!!!

I can't wait to read responses that don't involve Palin-is-someone-you-love-to-hate, I-love-Obama, and lets-reanalyze-Palin-again-and-again-and-again.

I don't know much about Mara yet, but I suspect that between those two, I'd go with David Schwartzman (Statehood Green). But there are also three independent candidates: Michael Brown, Dee Hunter, and Mark Long. I know Brown from two earlier elections (when he was a Democrat), and was not thrilled with him. I know nothing of Long. I met Hunter at the polls today and was favorably impressed.

I am curious to see if Schwartzman will benefit from name confusion with Carol.

Schwartz seemed to have stepped down gracefully (didn't contest it, not requesting recount, not making a big-to-do about it) - which I admire considering that is a huge piece of humble pie to eat.

I hope she re emerges again though.

As of this morning's Kojo Nambe (sp?) show on WAMU, she had not conceded (officially). Apparently, there was something strange about the election results, e.g., there were 1500 write-ins in one ward (precinct?) where there only dozens in previous elections and there were 9000 ballots recorded in one precinct (?) -- more than the number of voters. Sorry, I don't have all the facts straight--I heard it in the car and I am not that familiar with DC politics.

Right now the DC's election site has the updated vote as 2234 for Mara, 1483 for Schwartz, 18 write-ins. I could swear it was something like 4000 to 3000 to 1500 earlier, but it says there were 3759 Republican votes in toto, so the earlier numbers were obviously screwed up. Since I don't recall exactly what they were, I can't check my hypothesis, which is that Schwartz's vote got added to all three numbers.

It's Kojo Nnamdi, by the way. That's right, two n's and a d.
