Labral tears

Anonymous
Anyone have one of these in hip or shoulder? Looks like i have both in right shoulder and hip.

MRI tomorrow and then back to the ortho. Good websites? PT in the District? Did you do surgery or steroids? Get back to playing sports?

probably too late now...this post is sort of old...but i have had labral tears on both hips and have had surgery on both hips. i am due for a revision surgery on the right side, as it still hurts. the left is doing great though. in terms of hip docs, i suggest going to a specialist that deals with labral tears (usually associated with femoral acetabular impingement) -- there are only a couple in the area.... a lot of the time (and in my case) the tears were caused by the FAI, which needs to be addressed in surgery.

I was diagnosed with one a few years ago in my hip by a doctor at Virginia Medical center, can't remember his name...he said I need surgery but I still haven't gotten it as it requires 6 weeks on crutches and that is just not doable with little kids. In the meantime, I am still in pain and hope to get the surgery one day.

Francesca here. I'm willing to bet you saw either Dr ochiai or wolff at va medical center . Wolff is my surgeon and I would recommend no other. He trained by the best in the world when it comes to fai surgery , Dr philippon in Vail co. I'm sorry that you haven't found relief yet, trust me I know how awful the pain is! I was on crutches only for 2 weeks both surgeries and went back to work full time at week 2; no kids here. 6 wks on crutches prob means more extensive work like a micro fracture. I am due for a revision bc I'm still in pain on one side. Best of luck !
