Side dish to bring to a crab feast???

Anonymous
Some of the people don't even eat crabs so I wanted to bring something kind of filling, also there will be kids there (under 9 years)
Any ideas?
I was thinking either just roasted veggies or a roasted veggie orzo
Anything else that would be good?

corn on the cob
mac & cheese
potato salad

I would do a pasta salad with a vinagrette-type dressing (ie, not mayo based) as it is more filling and it can sit outside. Since there are kids, maybe a pasta with mozzarella cubes and cherry tomatoes dressed with a light balsamic vinagrette? Or a greek-style orzo with olives, feta, tomatoes and cucumbers with a red wine dressing, but the kids might not like that as much.

That should say red wine vinagrette dressing, not red wine dressing.

A salad of grilled corn, good grape or cherry tomatoes, basil, shallots and a light vinaigrette. Maybe add some black beans or avocado if you're looking for something more hearty. If there are going to be lots of kids there I'd go with orzo and roasted or fresh veggies.

This is EXACTLY what I was going to say. I make mine with corn, good tomatoes, basil, red onion, olive oil, red wine vinegar, and lots of salt and pepper.

Me too. Except I don't do the tomatoes. I use corn, red bell pepper, black beans, green onions (the whole thing, white and green), garlic, and oil & cider vinegar. Lots of salt and pepper, yes. I also like to use copious amounts of cilantro, but not everyone feels this way. (Including, sadly, DW.)

Or, the easiest thing would be corn on the cob. Or sliced tomatoes. Or sliced cucumbers. Preferably from a farm stand on the way there.

Except you do not want to inconvenience the host by asking for a knife/cutting board to slice.

Cut up some cucumbers, add a little onion and cover with Old Dutch Sweet and Sour Dressing. Let them chill long enough to get the flavor.
