Teachers, when do you find out which kids have IEPs/504s?

Just curious, dd has one and at the open house the teacher had not yet been told about it.

Dd has things in there such as where she should be seated, but at the open house the seating was open for kids to pick where they wanted to sit. The teacher said she would ask the principal about getting dd's info. Do you find out before Tues.?

I don't know, but my dc has an IEP and I would be really surprised if the teacher hadn't reviewed it before meeting the child at the open house.

Former teacher here -- we found out right away (as soon as we got class lists).

My son has an IEP this year, and his teacher knew as soon as she knew she had him.

My daughter's teacher quietly mentioned at today's open house (FCPS) that she would revisit seat placement due to the 504 plan. So she already knows about it.

They should know as soon as they have a class roster. If it;s an old or new IEP/504 from the previous year it's in their records.

It is how fast the SPED teacher could make copies of the snapshots to have out to all the teachers. They take them around to all the teachers and we have to sign for them.

We don't get hard copies of them. They are on a computer program (GetIEP) for our access.

Thanks for the replies. I'll call the school today to see if the teacher has gotten dd's info yet.

The teacher should have had it as soon as the class rosters were created. I always ask at the Open House if they've had a chance to review it and provide the teacher a letter of introduction. The letter tells her more about my DC - things that aren't necessarily in the IEP. It includes things that seem to work well for my DC and all of my contact information. And, a picture of my kid. It will take the teacher a while to learn names/faces and I think it helps to include a fun picture.

HS teacher in MoCo here (home with a sick child today). I am still receiving IEPs and 504s. I got another one today via email and have had them trickling in all week. The students arrived on Monday. There are lots of moving pieces at the HS level, so this is to be expected. I would NOT expect that at the elementary level where students are in one class with one teacher and the rosters are made up well in advance, sometimes before the end of the previous year.

I have one son with an IEP, and one with a 504 at 2 different Elementary Schools. For my son with the IEP, when the teacher did a brief home visit yesterday, his Special Ed. Teacher came with her, they work together a ton. She has his IEP. (online access as the other poster mentioned). His teacher mentioned a few things (special interests/fixations) so I know for sure she had spoken to his prior teacher. I quietly asked my older son's teacher if he had his 504, he immediately showed it to me so we could briefly discuss what our review date is. So, at Open house, both had all details. For my son with the IEP, the Special Educator bounces between 2 classes.

That is true for IEPs, but not for 504s. The 504 case manager, many times the school counselor, needs to make sure the teacher is aware and has a copy of it.

Right. Otherwise it would probably be called GetIEPand/or504.
