| My DD just started a new preschool this Monday, so today is the 4th day. She cries every monring and her teacher says she's sad for the first 1/2 hr and then does ok. She is only 4 days in, so I'm liekly over-reacting, but this is really bothering me. This school is 5 days a week, which I already felt was a lot for a three-year old. Last year she went to a two morning a week program and loved it - no tears from day 1. Should I be atlking to the director about pulling her out a day a week or something, or do other people's kids take a while to acclimate? Thanks! |

My daughter is a bit younger - 17 months. She has been in daycare since she was 5 months old. She had no issues until she transitioned to a new classroom at 12 months old. We had a few weeks of tears and crying after drop-off, but absolutely fine once she adjusted to the new classroom, teachers, etc.
Hang in there - it is really tough to know they're not happy. But, kids are resilient and adjust. Now our little one is playing non-stop. |
| Yeah, it usually takes 2 weeks or so. If it goes on for longer than 3 weeks maybe you might start to worry. |

My son took 2 weeks of crying every morning to transition. Then he was fine (actually, now he cries when i come to pick him up - he wants to stay and play!)
Reducing the # of days probably would have the opposte effect - she'd get used to it for a day or two, then remember what fun she has home with you and be upset the next time she has to go in - one step forward, two back. Keep with it, the teacher/director shoudl tell you that they've had many kids who cry daily and end up loving it good luck! |
| I could have written your exact post OP! Today is day #4 and surprisingly no tears today. Hopefully, this continues. |

OP here. Thanks moms. Just needed to hear that my daughter wasn't the only one and that it gets better.
