Pediatrician Recommendation - Silver Spring area

Anonymous
I'm looking to change pediatricians. We'd like to find someone (preferably in the Silver Spring area) who is open to spreading out vaccines and where the office environment is not like a "factory". I know its a tall order, but where we are going now is not working out. Its nearly impossible to speak to a doctor directly on the phone and then if you try to make an appointment to speak to a doctor they won't do that unless the baby is definitely sick or its a well visit. Everything goes through the medical technicians / nurses who quite honestly don't sound so sure in they advice they're giving. We also got "the look" when we said we wanted to spread out vaccines. Well visits have to be scheduled no less than 8 weeks in advance!! I'm new at this so maybe its typical for most pediatrician offices to be so difficult to navigate. Just wondering if someone has found anything better out there. Thanks!

We love Pediatric and Adolescent Care of Silver Spring (pacaremd.com). Dr. Feldman in particular is wonderful. They have call-in hours to speak with a nurse several times a day and you can always get a sick child appointment that day. We had a terrifying incident when we first moved here and they were great. I really recommend them.

We love the doctors at metropolitan pediatrics (in Rockville though). Website: http://www.metropolitanpediatrics.com.hosting.domaindirect.com/index.html

You do have to schedule well baby visits in advance of course but sick visits have always been the same day for us. I also split his 6 months vaccinations into a 6 month and 7 month visit and they were fine with that. I haven't discussed further spreading out of vaccinations. You can make an appointment to talk to a doctor in advance to find out about their practice (for a small fee).

OP here- thanks for the recommendation. Just want to add that an office in Bethesda or NW DC would work too....

I second this. The office is great and we love Feldman.

I use Primary Pediatrics. I am not sure about their view on spreading vaccines, but there seem to be some progressive doctors in their practice. As far as care goes, I absolutely love Dr. Bland. He is a fantastic doctor.

If you are close to 495, it's worth a trip to Dr. Saw Htun on Research blvd. off of Shady Grove Road. I could have written your post about being sick of our pediatric "factory" and not being able to speak with an actual doctor over the phone, only a nurse (even when DC was TOTALLY SICK and he had been seen by a doctor within the last couple of days). I know some people love that kind of practise but I hated it. Dr. Htun is the only doctor in his small office, he is very attentive, remembers us every time we go in, including specifics of what was said at the last visit, and has been very accomodating with spacing out our vaccines. He is worth the drive!!! (The 'factory' ped. office is literally less than five minutes from our house, but I think the 20 min. drive up 495 is well worth it!!!!) Good luck.

Another vote for Pediatric and Adolescent Care of SS. We've seen ALL the docs (lost of ear infections, unfortunately) and had good experiences w/ all of them. I've never been unable to get an appt if I felt it was needed. We usually see Tamara Buckely (Nurse Prac/Lac Cons) for our check-ups. Her hours are limited, but her good nature and thorough explanations are WELL worth it! (FWIW we live in NE DC and switched from an noxious pediatrician 1 mile from our house to go to this practice. Then they moved farther away from us...but they are worth the trip!)
