Did Ann Romney's "love" message and Christie's "respect" message ring a bit hollow to you?

They did, to me, at least. And, I was honestly listening with an objective frame of mind. Their deliveries were fine -- but the messages almost seemed to contradict each other. Am I off-base?

Well, to be fair, Christie's speech was actually about Christie. Remember when he described Mitt as a bold, tough talker? Have you ever seen Mittens do any such thing?

I think it's because they have nothing substantive to say. But this time in 2008, both McCain and Obama had laid out pretty specific plans for their presidency. Where are Mitt's? We have no idea what his plans are.

Bwahahahahaha - YES! I almost spit my drink all over my living room when he said that. AS IF. We don't even know what Mitt's policy positions are yet, for God's sake!

+1 Because he has no ideas, and all he can rely on are dog whistle platitudes to stir up the unthinking masses.

I wonder if Romney can truly sense how much the GOP loathes his candidacy? The convention seems like an arranged wedding.

I loved how "real leaders don't chase polls, they change polls"! Hilarious! Yeah, Mitt never worried about placating anyone, yeah right!

I thought Ann Romney had about 4 or 5 really good lines but I was enormously uncomfortable with how she gave women the credit for working all day and then coming home and helping with book reports. How women handle more overall work than men and are the "best of America." And how she didn't know that any man in America could understand this but women in America don't expect their lives to be easy. I thought that was really offensive to all the men out there working and raising families. I know my dh would be extremely annoyed at being characterized as if he didn't "get" it.

Sorry, Ann, maybe your husband doesn't work as hard as you do but mine is out there everyday taking care of business and taking care of our family. He rocks!

+1 trillion. My Democratic DH was extremely offended, both on his own behalf and on behalf of all women to whom she was obviously pandering.

Wow, several of you PPs really lack an ability to read people. Let me break just some of this down for you at the very least:

Mitt and Ann = genuine people.

Obama = doesn't even believe his own bullsh--

Santorum's speech at the convention = totally inappropriate and abrasive to many women.

I could go on, but let me give your this sliver of reality that you can take away from this thread, as obviously several PP's here suffer from EXTREME gullibility and lack of discernment. wow.

No. I loved her speech. It was refreshing and inspirational. It is a very welcomed message. Thank you for asking for my opinion of her speech.

Thank God you have it (us) all figured out. Now what...

Oops. I posted above and would like to add I LOVED Chris Christie's speech. That guy can deliver. I am sorry you didn't find them as inspirational as I did.

Yes, thanks for bringing this up. As a husband and father, I was very offended by the comments Ann made last night. I also recall her saying something like women sigh louder/harder because of their concerns about tomorrow or making through another day (something like that). I take it that me and my DW are not alone in that we face these challenges (and achievements) together, night and day. The GOPs' efforts to make whole with the millions of women it has (and continues to) offended ought not suggest that women are going it alone in the homes across our country.

Pulled this up to watch because of your mention of it. The "hands" theme really got away from him and ventured way into the maudlin. Rick, enough with the "hands" already!

I watched Ann Romney online this morning because I heard her speech on the radio last night and sometimes I find that visual vs audio alone makes a difference. For example, I always found George Bush more convincing on radio when I couldn't see his face. When I could see him give a speech he always had a look on his face as if he were really uncomfortable and afraid people were going to realize he was a fraud. They also say that in the Nixon-Kennedy debate, Nixon sounded authoritative on radio but the visual on tv just killed him.

On radio, I felt that Romney made some effective points but in between those points, she sounded uncomfortable and phony. ("I love you women!!!!" Ugh - that was awful.) However, when I saw her speech, she seemed much better and more genuine, but she still had some moments where she seemed awkward and phony. "I love you women," for one, did not improve when seen on tv. But overall, much better on tv.

Sorry but Mitt always seems uncomfortable and inauthentic when he speaks. He's just socially awkward.
