Highly allergic child-best pre-school,private schools?

Anonymous
I have a child allergic to many things, including: peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, egg.

I've heard horror stories about accidents at pre-schools and primary schools. Can any other parents of children with food allergies make recommendations on the best schools in the area? I obviously want to find a place where I can trust the staff to take it very seriously.
Any recs are highly appreciated!

Most preschools have reputable ways to deal with nut allergies- you just need to make sure they are aware.. my DC's place won't even allow peanuts in the same room that we share (we rotate with other classes this year)- so our class cannot even bring in a peanut substance in- you'd be surprised how seriously the schools take it (at least til public school where you can't dictate a peanut change).. good luck!

Temple Rodef Shalom Nursery School in Falls Church is completely nut-free. Our son's classes always had a few kids with severe allergies and the issue was dealt with seriously and respectfully.

School for Friends is amazing about allergies, and being sensitive to them. Parents across the board cannot bring in food that a child is highly allergic to into the classroom.

The Langley School is peanut and tree nut free for snacks and lunch, including items made in a facility where nuts are processed. They are very careful about kids sharing lunches.

The River School in DC (preschool through 3rd grade) is totally nut free.

School for Friends. We have a child with every allergy yours does and he did wonderfully. Please make sure to educated your child very very well. For example - the children couldn't bring eggs, but could bring pasta and things that contained egg. Make sure your child knows to NEVER eat from anyone else's plate. Reinforce often. Also, try to be a resource for other parents in a non judgmental way because it is a burden for families to build their eating habits around 1 person. So while your child's health should be respected, so should other families for whom it's difficult to create all meals egg, nut, sesame, etc free. I usually kept on hand recipes just in case anyone asked, or suggestions for brands. It can be time consuming and since I had already done research I wanted to help. Good luck
