Palin on Fannie and Freddie: In http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/08/palin-makes-her-first-gaf_n_124792.html, you can see Palin confusing the status of teh two agencies, apparently thinking they were part of the gov't. What I find interesting is not that she got confused about a small (if important) point, but McCain's reaction as he stood next to her. His face is kind of blank, then he applauds a bit along with the audience. Is he also confused about what they are? Or did he not want to pull a Lieberman and whisper a correction? Or was he not listening?
Obama on the Muslim rumors: In http://www.suntimes.com/news/politics/obama/1150540,CST-NWS-faith08.article, you can see Obama use the phrase "my Muslim faith". He was discussing the rumors, and admitted that John McCain had not spoken of "my Muslim faith". Stehanopoulos interrupted and corrected him saying "Christian faith', which Obama accepted momentariily before explaining that he was saying McCain himself had not accused him of being Muslim. "Christian faith" would have made no sense, so Stephanopoulos clearly made a gaffe. It would certainly have been better if Obama had said "My alleged Muslim faith", because the phrase has been separated out and spread over the web. But to call something a gaffe because it is possible to take it out of context is ridiculous. What really screwed things up was Stephanopoulos's repeated interruptions? Am I being too Obamaphiliac in my interpretation? |
