Can anyone recommend some place in DC or NoVA that does 3D / 4D prenatal imaging? We would love to have the images done of our baby so we can share them with our families, but I definitely want to go somewhere safe and qualified! Thanks. |
Many would say none of these places is definitely safe. It isn't known how much damage is done to a fetus by these procedures, but many people (myself included and I am not really a nervous nelly) just think any risk is too big. |
I don't know of a place but I would not let people who are afraid of the technology scare you. I have had a very complicated high-risk pregnancy and have been getting weekly (and occasionally twice weekly) ultrasounds since week 16. This will continue until I deliver. I don't think the doctors would be doing this if they thought there was any harm to the baby. This is how the doctors handle all pregnancies who have my issues and they have not seen a deformed baby because of the extra ultrasounds. |
I think some doctors offices do them. I know Reiter Hill does it for an extra charge, since insurance doesn't cover it. I would go there before a random center. Have you asked your doctor?
To the PP, I second your vote of confidence. But firmly believe that a medical professional should do the imaging, since they know the correct frequency levels to do the ultrasound at. Ultrasound can be used to melt internal tissues under other circumstances (my brother and father are both biomedical engineers who create ultrasound equipment) and they are experimenting with running it at high frequency levels to burn/destroy cancer, etc. So, you want to make sure it's not an inexperienced sonographer behind the probe! ![]() |
