| An alternative option is to use vinyl spackle to fill in the grooves, sand, then paint. Undetectable. |

Or can't you put drywall over the paneling? I don't know which option is easier/cheaper. But there are options. |

| we just ripped down the paneling ourselves. it was fun. don't recall the cost to drywall, though. |

Be careful doing this. Often times the panelling can be bowed which would be unsightly underneath new drywall and you will have to move all your outlet and switch boxes out the thickness of the drywall. |

Pulling it down is really easy. Just take a hammer and make a hole, pull the first panel down, and from there it is really just pulling each huge panel down. Don't pay someone for that part!
You could estimate drywall at about $18 per sheet (they come in 4X8 foot sheets). Hanging them isn't a problem - just google it and you'll see how easy it is. The hard part is finishing it - you need to do the seams, which requires a lot of taping, pasting, and sanding. So much sanding. Pay someone for that part! |

Good rule of thumb is it generally costs about $1.50 per square foot to finish a room with drywall. That gets it installed, mudded, sanded, primed, and remudded and primed and ready for fnal coat.
Taking the paneling down is quite easy, it usually is just nailed to the studs. Unless access is difficult, i would remove and then drywall. Pps are right about alternatves, but imo they never quite look the same. |

| I painted mine too and I really liked the outcome. It did however takes LOTS of time. I think I had to prime it with a small brush with Kilz and then two coats of paint with a brush (roller looked terrible). |
