It is so gross, and I never had it before. I am a vegetarian, so I won't go the Atkins route. I know I eat way too many carbs. I just don't know what to eat anymore. And what's the best exercise? TIA
Reduce carbs, up veggies, increase fat. But really, veg is only going to continue to work if total calories are low. You have to eat less every year.

Exercise more, and every day. I have belly fat that comes and goes, but it goes when I walk six or seven days a week. I don't do vigorous exercise, but walking an hour or so a day does keep it down, not completely off, but down. If I stop exercising, it builds up. I eat a very healthy diet, lots of fruits and vegetables, and I make everything, including ketchup. No processed foods, no soda, no takeout, rare restaurant meals (they are huge and very fatty, usually). I make ice cream and cookies, and cakes and pies, and whatever I feel like eating, but I seem to eat far less than I used to. All that cooking wears me out! Cut out bread if you can, crackers. Eat healthy fats, nuts, seeds, olive, grapeseed, coconut oil. Even butter is a healthy fat. Do you eat eggs or fish? If so, eat more of those, and far fewer snacks like chips. I do indulge in salt and vinegar chips from time to time, and I fried up some donuts the other day, but generally I eat nothing fried.
I don't have a lot of belly fat, but I never had any before menopause, and now it's there, this blobby thing that won't go away unless I exercise. It was much worse before I stopped all the processed foods (and juice), so that has helped a lot. |
Many of the vegetarians I know are fat. I think they eat a lot of chips, etc. Whether you are a vegetarian or omnivore, it's calories in/calories out that it all comes down to.
Another veg here. You have to cut calories regardless of how much you exercise. Agree with much of above. Check out hormone levels, as an imbalance can cause belly fat.
Stop being vegetarian, lean steak, steamed vegetables, no breads , no sugars (fruit are sugars), replace all drinks with water or splenda
you have to exercise!! you can't spot lose fat on any place on your body. the more you exercise, the more fat you'll lose. take note of your calorie intake. use myfitnesspal (an app and website) to track your calories each day.
Carbs aren't the issue--grains and unhealthy fats are the issue.
Do you get enough protein? I'm vegetarian and I tend to snack less when I up my protein. Also lots of veggies - green smoothies are a good way to do that. And finally you need to exercise - abs every day.
big belly is do to carbs and sugars mainly and of course lack of exercise, as we get older its harder to get rid of it, so dont let it grow more
big belly as we get older is danger for diabetes, heart attack and stroke, join a gym and reduce carbs and sugar
Step away from the potato chips.

OP, do you use a lot of soy-based meat substitutes?
If so, stop eating that shit. You're a vegetarian. Eat more vegetables. Don't go looking to mimic meat dishes. Too many vegetarians do that. |
Agree with PP. I have several vegetarian friends who are fat, and they rely a lot on these products.
