| I need to do it tonight and am worried about it (not in a place anyone can help me). I'e done all the sub-q injections alone, just the size of the needle and doing it this one in my thigh is scary |
| I've given myself a few delestrogen injections in my thigh. They were actually pretty painless. I've been told PIO is tougher because there's more fluid and it's thicker. |
| Thanks! did you do it on the outer part or right on top? |
|
Yes--many(progesterone and the trigger).
I iced for a long timr first, injected slowly (after needle stick which of course I did fast), and massaged with heat after. I did it toward the outside of the top of my thigh. Maybe toward the side. Alternated toward back and front. You can do it! Good luck. |

Not sure if your RE says you have todo it in the thigh or if you think that'll be easier to self-administer...but I gave myselg my last I'M trigger in my rear. Since my clinic recommends the upper/outer quadrant, it wasn't difficult for me to rreach.
I was really nervous, but I calld a friend and put her on speaker phone, iced while I was mixing, swabbed with alcohol, held my brath and stuck it in (I did not feel the 28 gauge needle at all), injected, and continued to ice for a few more minutes. It was actually easier than the subcutaneous shots...though I had some soreness afterward. If you're really nervous, your clinic may be able to help you find a nurse who administers injections as a side business. I used one for my first cycle, but didn't have time to arrange it for my second. |
+1. I gave myself many, many IM injections (PIO, trigger, etc.) in the buttocks, upper/outer quadrant like PP says, but no ice necessary. For me, twisting around a bit was easier than doing it in the thigh. I watched a video on youtube that showed a woman doing it. |

For what it's worth, the nurse explained to m the other day that some people do them in the butt themselves.
I've had it done (not myself) twice and it really hurt very little (less than the belly shots I give myself). I think the way the needle looks hurts way more than the reality of the shot itself! Good luck!!! |

I have done an IM injection in the rear end once. I iced it until it was numb and didn't really feel anything. It bled a little more than when my husband does the shots and I had a bruise afterwards, but I survived (and was quite proud of myself). Good luck!!

I would recommend doing an IM injection in your buttock if at all possible (as has been mentioned, it's not that hard to reach.) Everything I've read about injections in the thigh is that it is much more painful.

| Ugh, I'm also going to have to do this in the next few weeks. I changed from a clinic that prescribed progesterone suppositories to one that requires PIO IM shots. For 10 weeks post-transfer if it works! Totally nervous about this, I'm a huge needle-phobe (despite 4 years of multiple attempts). |

Thanks everyone. Did it in thigh with a ton of ice and it wasn't a big deal.

| Just a word of caution - shots in the buttock are not recommended anymore, because of the risk of hitting your sciatic nerve. |
When did they change the recommendation? I was told to do it in the buttock just a couple of months ago. |
... my nurse was just suggesting- 4 days ago?- that was a possibility.Who is to say that someoen else wouldn't hit you in the sciatic nerve? If you can you get the nurse to draw a mark on where you should give the shot, why does it matter (other than how much it sucks to give yourself a shot) who gives it? (genuine question) |
| I did this through all 3 pregnancies - DH often not around. It you have difficulty ice the area up a little before you administer the shot. |
