Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers
| Seriously. I am starting to feel completely clueless about being a mother. I know it is something that is supposed to come "naturally" but I am feeling a bit overwhelmed and unsure about all of it. Part of this stems from the fact that I am dealing with a very sweet but stubborn 11 month old. I've read the books but I do not find them particularly helpful. |

There is a place in alexandria I saw online. It looked good.
www.parentingplaygroups.com honestly I think more people should take these sorts of classes. Yes, *loving* your child comes naturally but unless you already knew all about child development before having a baby that knowledge and how best to apply it does NOT! That's why so many people have such a hard time at it. best of luck! |

Our ped. office gives us some really great brochures and handouts of what to expect of an X month old every time we come in for a visit.
So, for example, now that DD is 12 mo. old the nurse (at our last visit) gave me a packet of info. on introducing more/different foods, what to expect from teething, teaching/encouraging a child to walk, encouraging talking/singing/sounds, different "types" of crying (sep. anxiety, teething, frustrated b/c can't communicate, etc.), and so on. Great reading material. You may want to ask the advice nurse at your ped. office if they have any information like that. |
I can second Parenting Playgroups. Renee Hackney is just wonderful. I've seen her speak at my preschool, I had her to my house for my DD's playgroup and my DH and I took a Positive Discipline class with her. |
