Since delivering my second child, I have had on and off back pain in my lower back to the left (my left) of my spine. Recently it has gotten bad-- so bad that it shoots and throbs into my left hip and thigh. I went to the doctor, had xrays-- which were all negative and now he's sent me to a physiotherapist. The appointment is this monday, but on Friday, the pain got unbearable... I called my PCP and he WOULD NOT prescribe me anything. Can anyone recommend a PCP who is not gun shy on prescribing pain medication? |
I had back pain and finally threw my back out in January. I was having muscle spasms mostly from incorrectly using my back after the baby was born. My doctor gave me medication. I had a muscle relaxer (which I do not think they'd give you because it's mostly for muscle spasms) as well as Naproxen. Naproxen is the same thing as Aleve. Depending on your pain a strong medication may just make you sick. I would suggest trying to go to a walk-in clinic when your pain gets unbearable. Sometimes they'll give you a small prescription to hold you over.
If you don't get better with therapy, insist on getting an MRI. X-Rays are not always helpful in these instances. My doctor said to try the PT and if it didn't work after a couple of weeks to get an MRI. The PT worked so I didn't bother, but I know people who it did work for. |
