akin and my conspiracy theory

I've posted before that I think the R)s actually want to lose this election. There's no "winning" with this economy; it's going to continue to suck for at least the next four years. Rs don't want to be in charge of that. They would rather come back strong in 2016.

I think the Akin thing is a set up. What idiot doesn't know that you can't say that out loud on TV?

I would have thought, "nah, that's paranoid" - but it sounds like he refuses to drop out. From the Washington Post:

"By midday Monday, Akin had dug in for a fight, giving no public sign that he would withdraw.

“The good people of Missouri nominated me, and I’m not a quitter,” Akin told Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor who now hosts a radio show. “My belief is we’re going to take this thing forward. And, by the grace of God, we’re going to win this race. To quote my old friend John Paul Jones, ‘I’ve not yet begun to fight.’?”"

Because of this, Dems win Missouri. Romney loses a state he needed to win.

Just saying, once again, it seems like the Rs are doing everything humanly possible to lose this election by alienating everyone (except the most extreme) with extremism.

It's a great theory, but it is predicated on a questionable assumption: that is, that the American people will vote against someone simply because he says hateful/crazy things about women. I'd like to believe that's true, but I'm not sure.

The Dems were supposed to keep the Senate, Obama will likely will the Presidency (as most incumbents do) and the Rs will keep the House.

That was predicted months ago- at least after Snowe announced.

No great conspiracy.

OP - no offense, but you need to adjust your medication. You really think that, with 4 justices in their mid to late 70s, the Republicans would employ a strategy designed to lose the presidency that also adversely impacts their chances of retaking the Senate?

Please go invest in some tinfoil. Lots and lots of tinfoil. Our alien overlords hate the stuff.

You make a good point. Why detract from it with nastiness?

Think about this, he makes the comment 2 days before the deadline, seems a bit odd to me. Also, he won't withdraw another oddity. He speaks on winning by the grace of GOD another indication he understands his chances are slim. Any and all politicians know what to say and what not to say to get reelected, come on how many coincidences does it take for ppl to wake up. Its not rocket science although politicians want you to believe that.

To your first point: coincidence. To your second point: lots and lots of religious people chalk everything up to God: wins, losses, paper cuts, the sinking of the Lusitania, constipation. It's a consequence of a worldview in which God is in charge of everything, and a being to which one must "give everything up to."

McCaskill planned her commercials to highlight Akin to his right wing base, hoping he'd win.

I still think Romney will win Missouri. No contest there--Obama will not win Missouri.

Hopefully McCaskill will win Missouri, but those loonies vote in droves.

I was going for funny/snarky. If you're going to post (absurd) conspiracy theories on the internet and invite comment on them, you should develop a thicker skin.

Has King announced which team he's batting for?

Romney needs just about everything to fall his way in order to win, electoral-vote wise.

The Senate is way more fluid.

How could Akin, a senior member of the House Committee on Science, obviously a very scientific and intelligent man make such a grievous error on the capabilities and function of the female reproductive system

Of course his utterances are part of a grand scheme.

That scheme may very well be an illustration of the effect that the Evangelical Church has on science/sex education
