Seven year old in waiting area of hair salon with headphones -ok?

| The hair salon thread got me thinking - is it ok to bring my seven year old and have him wait in the waiting area with an iPad and headphones? I was planning on doing this tomorrow evening because my nanny is out sick and if I reschedule now I won't get in for weeks! Do you think this is ok? |

| I've done this with my son. Depends on the kid. Mine was ok with a book and a pad. Some would not be. |

| I haven't read the thread you reference but I have brought my kids with me when I get my hair cut for years, starting when my daughter was about 3. I just have them sit next to me or, as they have gotten older, in the waiting area where I can see them. |

| Totally fine. Make sure you have sight lines or he knows where you are and how to get to you. |

| I know my salon has encouraged me to bring my kids when I've had to call and reschedule because of child care issues. I haven't done it because they're 1 and 3, but in a few years it will be nice to have the option. |

| Why not? My 7 yr old came with me to the gyn last week b/c I didn't have a babysitter. He had my iPod and I told the front desk nurse he was mine. He was fine. |

I'm assuming he is mature and independent enough to handle it. He'll be fine. |

What would be wrong with it? Is he going to run around and grab people's hair? Knock bottles off the shelf?
At 7 he should be able to sit for an hour and manage with music, DS or something to entertain him. |

| I brought my daughter to an early gyn appt this year. My doctor was thrilled because she hadn't seen my daughter in person since, literally, the day she was born. My daughter was fine. She had her book and sat in the waiting room. I brought her to the hair salon too. No problem. |

I brought my daughter to the salon many tiems when she was that age. She did not mind sittign in the waiting room, except when they were doing the eyebrow wax, she preferred to sit right next to me. I think she delighted in my pain.
