Found a password-protected cell phone

Anonymous
I a cell phone in a large park. It has a password, so I can't contact the owner that way. I took it home and posted about it to the "lost and found" area of CL. What else can I do to find the owner? I don't have much faith in the park police.

What type of phone is it?

You should be able to tell the carrier. Why not take it into a store and see if they can locate the owner? DH just downloaded an App that puts an ICE phone number ticker across his wallpaper if there's an emergency and his phone is locked. That would work in this instance too. I better download that App!

OP here. It's a Sanyo Cricket phone. Should I take it to the nearest store that offers Cricket service? I googled the model and it seems to be a high-end burner phone, so maybe it was left there on purpose. Who knows.

Why not put a sign up at the park.

drop it off at a cricket store. i'm sure they can interrogate the phone.

Wait until someone calls, then ask who the owner is.

I'd take it to a Cricket store, they'd be able to hack the phone or cross-reference the phone serial # with who bought it (unless they paid cash). Hopefully you didn't disrupt a major drug deal or something lol.

I would take it to the Cricket store as well. If it is a burner phone not tied to someone specific, they can recycle it. If not, they can find the owner. (Of course, put up a sign in the park for a day or two first to see if someone local owns it.)
