I think all you have to do to see Abrams will not win the election is to look at both her and Kemp’s election campaign donation records. I would say a great deal of Abrams’ donations are from out of state (not eligible Georgia voters) while Kemp’s donations are coming from Georgia. She’s another Beto O’rourke -popular with people who would not be her constituents. |
Out of state money needed to combat white supremacy. Reconstruction isn’t complete. |
i I’m not going to be lectured by someone who doesn’t know the difference between citing an op-ed and a news article. The op-ed you cite had about 2000+ comments from people criticizing its premises |
You sound insane. Absolutely no one in Georgia believes Stacey Abrams is MLK Jr. or that these voting rights laws are Jim Crow. This is why Democrats lose. Overselling your positions and using such apocalyptic, hysterical language just makes us look like fear mongerers. |
NP... Downplaying and denying all of the GOP manipulations of the system makes you look like you are either clueless or a party to it. Which is it? Because "didn't happen" isn't a valid answer. And, I think the answer is already self-evident with your overt gaslighting of "you sound insane." |
I’m a Black Georgia voter, you tool, and you don’t know WTF you’re talking about. Stopping Sunday voting is equivalent to a system in which Black people could be lynched for not stepping into a busy street when a white person passed us on the sidewalk? How freaking dare you trivialize what Black people like my parents went through just to score cheap points on a random forum? The audacity of you white people. |
In 2018, Abrams had no assets and was ~100k in debt from student loans. She is now listed by Forbes as being worth around $21M, mostly from speaking fees and her book. I have my doubts that she's a real candidate. She conducts herself more like a social media influencer, saying provocative things like "Georgia is the worst state" and making click-bait claims about Georgia being on the verge of reentering the Jim Crow era. Meanwhile, Kemp is hated by Trump and also by the progressives. I find this very appealing. He has all the right enemies. |
Good points. I agree. |
As someone who is successfully improving my lot in life, she does not appeal to me at all. |
Where is PP getting that 100k in student loans in 2018? I went to law school with Stacey and took the maximum loans that Yale allocated for folks in financial aid and finished with less than that (even addling in my undergrad, where I also maxed out loans for financial aid kids). And we graduated 19 years before 2018 so I’m sure she had paid down most of it by then. Plus Yale pays off the loans for anyone working in public interest or government, so Yale would have been paying the loans for her for at least some of those years, I think. |
DP, but here's something about her debt https://www.yahoo.com/now/stacey-abrams-im-running-governor-200000-debt-191600455.html https://fortune.com/2018/04/24/stacey-abrams-debt-georgia-governor/ |
DP. I remember at the time I read the op-ed she wrote about being ridiculously, deeply in every kind of debt imaginable, I was sympathetic to her. I’m in my 30s now and her irresponsibility and excuse making really jump out at me. She’s a poor role model. She really has some nerve talking about Republicans breaking the law when she knowingly refused to pay her taxes for years! Ugh. |
White supremacy in action in your post; it won’t affect you personally, therefore she’s “making click-bait claims”? May I remind you that when Alito proudly leaked his turd of a decision, he basically said if a group didn’t have rights at founding in the Constitution, then we shouldn’t expect rights ever? Remember? Nah, you don’t remember because that won’t affect you either so you don’t care. I hope she wins. I hope she wins and sends the Georgia Republicans back to hell where they belong so that Georgia and the rest of the country can continue to make progress instead of being dragged back to some weird Confederate version of the Man in the High Castle (Wikipedia informs me that this book is called “Bring the Jubilee”). |
Ugh. You mean like Trump and every other high level Republican plus all the billionaires? Ugh. How dare she. Ugh. |
I voted for Biden in a repudiation of Trump. Since, as you argue, Stacey Abrams is just like them, that’s an excellent case for repudiating her too. For a lawyer to blithely decide she was going to spend tax money on personal expenses and require the IRS to put her on a payment plan is so lawless and unacceptable. That Democrats ever downplayed this and found it defensible is appalling. |
