Is GAL just letting anyone in? What ECNL should have done

Anonymous
Generally, the better competition you play against the better you get, if you're playing and not riding the pine. So in general a better league will have better competition, hence why the league can make a difference. It is definitely not the only factor however and GA v. ECNL is irrelevant as both are close enough to each other to not matter. Some top EDP teams can hang too, but that's about it. Meanwhile, I will say that your kid's happiness and comfort is what matters most when it comes to sports, especially female sports.

GA is nowhere near as close as ECNL.

Can’t you just stop? It’s so annoying reading the same type of posts.

My kid plays ECNL and has played with and against GA teams. I’ve also seen other age groups. So first hand, they are close. I’d say that with the demise of DA there is a greater disparity in GA teams than ECNL, but at the top to middle it is close enough. Slight edge to ECNL.

How does the league changing from DA to GA change how strong the teams are if the players are the same - which is the case in this area. Please educate us.

I guess it depends on whether you think the loss of Penn Fusion and LISC, being replaced by Philly Ukrainians, Balt Union/Celtic, and Sporting Delaware, matters for the development and recruiting opportunities for the girls in FCV, Arlington, Armour, Metro. I don’t think it does. Personally, I’m very pleased to not have a Long Island weekend and hotel stay coming up for my GA DD whenever play resumes again. My DD is in the recruiting zone, and I do not think the league matters. If I did think the league mattered, my DD would have had ample opportunities to go to a local ECNL team. I agree with beast mode soccer guy - if what you have is working, stay where you are, and re-assess if it stops working. The U14 and below parents can keep arguing about leagues, yawn, best of luck to them and their DDs, but all of the available options are decent for the upcoming year. And who knows what happens after that.

Like I said, it doesn't much. A few clubs migrated from DA to ECNL and are therefore not in GA. So that makes GA a little less competitive than DA was. Not a lot, just a little bit. Don't get your panties in a wad over this. Both leagues are elite. Sheesh.

GAL seems to be taking the strong aspects of the Development Academy and implementing it in the league. High school and substitution rules will be similar to ECNL

The marketing deck GA just put out is very good (girlsacademyleague.com) and lists the national events they intend to hold, including Nov 20-23 in Southern California. If COVID permits.

He asked a honest question, especially regarding this area. NoVA ECNL clubs are not particularly strong so what is the real advantage to playing on a NoVA ECNL club over GA?

- what matters is the club not the league. Both GA and ECNL are expensive, both presume of being competitive, it comes down to the club. Does the club have the infrastructure, good and experienced coaches, the coach support your player? These amongst other factors. If your player is being developed and supported be the coach/club then stay. If your player is good recruiters will be aware and make contact. PERIOD!
