Yes! She also reprised her role as the wicked witch on a 1976 episode of Sesame Street. It was highly controversial, as parents felt she was too scary for kids, and the episode never ran again. It is apparently impossible to find and probably lost for good unless someone happened to record it the one time it aired. I don’t know why this has always fascinated me! |

Alright...since I’m here I’ll share another fact. Margaret Hamilton, known forever as the Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz was a former schoolteacher. She got into acting when she was (unusual for the time) a newly divorced mother with a very young son. She was perhaps self-conscious of her “scary” image and appeared on Mr. Rogers to explain how she was NOT wicked and was playing “ make believe.” As an older woman, she was cast in a long running Maxwell House commercials. Interesting about her background in education. Her granddaughter is a professor of Renaissance history. |

It’s not difficult to be an extra in a movie. I was an extra in Pelican Brief w/Julia Roberts. They just have you sign some paperwork and give you a check. I made a whole $25.00. And I happened to be working for a bank at that time, we had accounts of a lot of homeless people in DC, so homeless people do have bank accounts. In fact one at the time had $30k in his account. |
Two names I never would have expected to see together in an anecdote, Julia Roberts and Coretta Scott King. |
Yeah my son’s history teacher was an extra in The Irishman. He’s not an actor or anything. |
