Republican activist organizes clean up in W. Baltimore

Anonymous wrote:“Democrats” did not screw up Baltimore. Corruption and structural racism screwed up Baltimore. When you are so fixated on your “team” you are blind to actual problems and solutions in your rush to blame the “other side.”

When you look at Democrats, don’t just look at Baltimore. Look at their actual policies and the results in Baltimore, In Manhattan, in Silicon Valley. Look at Obamacare. When you look at Republicans, don’t just focus on Kentucky or Mississippi or Alabama, look at their policies. Look at the tax cuts for billionaires and their wars.

Assess political parties based on their policies.

The PP saying Republicans have caused all the problems (is that you?) is looking only at the immediate, not the history. And in the immediate, it's Democrats. They've had the city, the state, and the Fed some of the time. And Baltimore's problems continue.

The Democrats don't care about Baltimore except as a pawn. Own it.

And if you don't want to pick up trash, there are a tons of other things you can do, as well. Or, you can keep complaining about how someone "politicized" their help. And how Trump was a jerk for calling out Cummings.

Since someone's bound to try to make a snarky remark, here's where I'll say I do litter clean up on my street and when I'm out for walks already. And I also volunteer in other ways. But there's enough need that every single one of you could fill up your spare time easily. You just have to jump in.

They won’t though. They’d never allow themselves to follow a Republican’s lead - much less, a Trump supporter *gasp*! They are the biggest bunch of bratty crybabies I’ve ever come across.

"Follow a Republican's lead"? How? By ripping food away from those same neighborhoods you're claiming to clean up through kicking people of SNAP? By resisting calls for minimum wage laws? By opposing universal health care? By taking away Baltimore girls' and womens' rights to control their reproduction and not have babies until they can afford to? By rolling back fair lending laws?

should I go on?

Republicans can pick up ALL the trash they want. It's a joke.

You're right. If Baltimore girls and women had been able to access abortions, if Republicans hadn't turned Baltimore into The Handmaids Tale, Baltimoreans would be doing so much better.

Oh wait. Baltimore girls and women have been able to access abortions. It isn't The Handmaids Tale.

And somehow, other locations in Maryland have managed to prosper. It must be the Republican stronghold in Baltimore that is causing the different outcome. Oh, wait, there is no Republican stronghold in Baltimore.

Huh.

Keep on deflecting. It's really helping the people of Baltimore. But you don't give a thought to the people of Baltimore besides how you can use them to support your hatefulness. Gold star for you.

Ok, looking to hear all of your policy ideas to help Baltimore. Because obviously a one-time trash cleanup isn't going to do it. Seriously, I really want to know your ideas for entrenched poverty & violence. Evidence-based, please.

You're the one saying the trash cleanup was pointless, even though the people who live in that neighborhood are pleased with it and had been unable to get city help to do it for years.

So go ahead. You're throwing darts at what someone did. What should be done instead?

And since Democrats are in charge, surely they'll follow your plan once you've laid it out. They've just been too ... busy? ... to come up with anything so far. Sure, one out of stater managed to get 12 tons of trash off the streets, out of alleys, and out of yards. You're right that there's a lot more that needs to be done, but that doesn't mean that effort wasn't useful or appreciated. (And was not impossible, so yes, should have been done a long time ago.)

Exactly. Well said. The liberals condemning this clean up need their heads examined. The residents are happy to have had the help, and the trash is gone (for now). That's really all that matters and will hopefully be the impetus the Democratic "leadership" of that city needs to get its act together and KEEP those neighborhoods clean. We shall see.

Anonymous wrote:Yes, this is obviously a political stunt. And, equally obviously, Baltimore's issues go WAY beyond trash on the street, and have to do with policies that Republicans enacted or are trying to enact or blocked. Kicking people off of food stamps? Yeah, that's REALLY going to help Baltimore. I could go on and name a zillion anti-welfare policies.

If you told me that Republicans in Baltimore were stepping up contributions to their local food pantries, making huge gifts to school after-care programs, funding Habitat for Humanity, in a sustainable and long-term committed way ... but a one-off trash pickup on a weekend? Please. Don't insult me.

Baltimore has been a one-party city for decades, Maryland has had primarily Democratic Governors over those decades, Democratic Senators and Congressmen, and there have been a mix of Democratic and Republican Presidents, and Democratic and Republican Congresses.

So you're blaming occasional Federal Republican dominance for all of Baltimore's problems.

Democrats - the party of "I want all the power! But nothing's my fault!"

So again - you’d prefer the Baltimore residents still be living among filth. Good to know.

You think one time photo op is going to solve the social ill? Good to know.

This is exactly how Libs seem to think. Can’t fix everything in one day? Stay on your ass, and DO nothing. Nice.

Exactly. Or even better, don a pink pussy hat and march! That’ll *definitely* help!

Still talking about it YEARS later. Seems pretty effective to me.

Well, it's certainly been effective as being the butt of many jokes...

Are you afraid of vaginas? Are you afraid of women who are comfortable with their vaginas?

Why did the pussy hats have such an impact on you that you still bring them up YEARS later?

Wow, speaking of triggered...

Yes, it's clear you're uncomfortable around VAGINAS. Haven't used on in a while, eh?

I'll throw in my two cents.

The hats and the costumes were comic gold. Nothing like a bunch of women (and some men) walking around with pussy hats and vagina costumes protesting whatever......And the goal was???

And, here we have an individual - a gay man who happens to support Trump actually taking action - enlisting volunteers, not pussy hat-wearing protesters - to take action to get something done.

I can tell you which group I would want to be part of.

Nailed it. And re: those vagina costumes - nothing makes people respect women more than seeing them parading around in giant vaginas. So dignified.

Being part of a clean up? That's good work.

Being part of a group? You would choose the group where you can take a selfie with Mr. Pizzagate?

I posted previously that I think highly of this guy's actions - regardless of his motivations.

That does not change the message or importance of the Women's March. Something very threatening to vagina PP and obviously something that went way over your head. Guess that's how we have a misogynistic a$$hole in the White House: fear and stupidity.

About as undignified as penises. I mean who thinks it’s a good idea to march around with a penis on their heads? I guarantee no one would think that was dignified.

For me:
- A teaching moment with my kids on how you treat and respect other people - regardless of gender, etc.
- Motivation to become more politically active in the 2018 election and beyond.

YMMV.
