How DO we get the calendar changed?

Write your board member, your members at large, and your board of supervisors rep. Connect it explicitly to the affordability agenda. Make clear that you’re watching how they vote on the easy ones.

This FCPS calendar has turned me Republican. Not Trump Republican (eff that guy) but Republican enough to want to evict every single SB member and start over.

All of the schoolboard members are liberal and many are progressive. This calendar is *not* progressive and disproportionately impacts lower-income and dual-working families. Women and hourly workers are supposed to be constituencies democrats care about. So raise the issue with local league of women voters, canvassers/fundraisers who are trying to get support for other democratic candidates (especially if you’ve donated before) and directly ask school board members how they are contributing to the affordability agenda with their calendar choices.

It is idiotic that this is how any of this works. But COVID created the idea for many Democrats that liberals don’t mind keeping kids out of school and now its course correction.

Have you confused school with being child care? You think its primary purpose is to warehouse children?

Here's the "school isn't childcare" troll. So stupid. Of course it is.

I think schools exist to provide a public good at public expense. Has taxpayers we have a right to assume the public will be provided efficiently and effectively, and not create undue burdens on the households they are intended to serve.

Please run for office.

What undue burdens are they creating? The calendars are published a year in advance. No one can control the weather. There are no burdens, except for maybe people who suck at managing a household. Stop thinking of school as child care. It's not.

The undue burden is on STUDENTS!!! You need to stop. The calendar is a problem. Go away, you lazy troll.

Yes. Kids need consistency. All these people who embrace this calendar chaos for the sake of pleasing every single person who walks through the door of a FCPS school are nuts.

Your bar should be if you have turned Republican enough to have charter schools. I’m not.

Unfortunately this area is full of people whose political views are so intertwined with their identity that they are wracked with guilt if they support anything that isn't bending over backwards to serve the equity agenda.

VA is opted-in on school choice though. I wonder how FCPS will do when everyone can take the top $5,000 off private school tuition.

If that was true, a lot more days of the school year would be off. There are tons of holidays that’s aren’t recognized on the FCPS Calendar.

Right! My child always misses our Wiccan Imbolc and Beltane seasonal festivals. Every year. It's so unfair.

My kids will pass the SOLs despite this calendar but it still doesn't make it ok. This calendar has been terrible for my kids and their mental health. This quarter has been far too disjointed and they are paying the price.

It is not acceptable to have this many days off, this many shortened weeks, this many early releases. I don't need child care but I do need proper education. I have no idea why they are off tomorrow, off for spring break and then off again right after.

Who came up with this hell? It can't be anyone thinking about education and what is best for kids.

I'm sorry that your kids are broken, but it has nothing to do with the school calendar.

Her kids are fine.

The person shaming parents for expecting consistent schooling is broken.

How small you must be to come up with this?! My kids aren't broken but they can acknowledge that this calendar has been hard on them to get a rhythm going or because teachers have had to cram too much because the quarter was so severely shortened.

Get a grip and come out of your box.

Why can't you pull them out?

It's what non-Christians have been doing since forever, until they got enough numbers to get their holidays on the calendar.
