Probably not great for inspiring VP to admit to this in an election year.

MAGA voters will love this. They feed to being cruel to defenseless people and animals.

I don't agree with this. Many MAGA people I know are huge dog lovers. Their relationship with their dog is their unspoken form of therapy (seriously). They are intensely attached to their dogs.

You don't shoot a puppy. You put it up for adoption. Only an abusive psychopath would shoot a puppy; the same person would happily shoot another person.

Most MAGAs I personally know would not relate to this.

This is some sort of ultra-MAGA Overton Window crap.

I agree. I work in animal welfare and it’s not a one-party field. This is both sides horrible. Why would she tell this story?! Does she not remember what happened with Mitt and his dog?

Mitt's rooftop dog and "binders full of women" feel like such an innocent time in America.

That story made news. It cost Romney his presidential prospects. For those who aren't familiar with what happened, he packed up his family to travel from their home in Mass. to his parents' home in Canada, a 12-hour trip by car. He stuck the family dog in a dog crate and secured the dog crate to the car roof. Let me repeat that: He secured the dog crate to the car rooftop as if he were nothing but a Thule Cargo Carrier. You cannot make up this stuff. The experience was so traumatic for the poor dog that he proceeded to have diarrhea all over himself and the crate. It dripped down the sides of car windows.

Here is a Wikipedia article on the incident. This article relates the Romney kids afterwards told people the dog ran away once they were in Canada, and was never seen again. The official story is the dog was adopted by Romney's sister and lived to a ripe old age.

The fact that the Noem story has picked up as much speed as it has suggests a Republican rival for Trump’s vice dictator role maybe gave it a little air to goose their own chances. It’s a terrible story but as we’ve seen, the media largely ignores Republican acts of being a crap person and they wouldn’t have shone a light on this episode at all.

Can’t stop won’t stop calling chickens livestock, and now the dog had attacked people? Come on.

Yeah, Reddit is having a field day with Noem's sob story, and how the story line keeps shifting. Keep digging the hole, dog murderer.

She’s too dumb to realize that this is making her look like an even bigger idiot.

I hope her career is destroyed. What a cold-blooded piece of shit. How devoid of humanity must she be to tell this story as if it would be perfectly acceptable to others? This makes me sick to my stomach.

I am conservative, volunteer at an animal shelter and have fostered countless dogs. I have one sweet elderly baby right now who was dropped off with a huge cancerous tumor on her stomach; she will live the rest of her days with me.

If Noem was nominated for vice President i would never vote for her.

Here's the thing with this:

There is a way to write the puppy story to make Noem come across as someone that made a hard choice about an out of control animal that was dangerous. Lots of people would have still had a field day with that, but there would also be people who would relate. The fact that she told this story to her ghostwriter and that it was left in the book the way she told it is really sort of insane. She can't come back from this for VP.

Don’t let this fall off the page. Remind MAGAs who are considering voting for trump —-THIS IS THE COMPANY HE KEEPS. She is on Fox and they are making excuses for her. Spinning it, downplaying it, blaming BIDEN’s German shepherds. You are the company you keep, folks.

Here's a hard fact. There are people in this country that will shoot a dog that won't hunt.

There are also a lot of people who will dump puppies on the side of the road, continue to breed dogs who shouldn't be bred, and just generally otherwise mistreat and abuse animals because they can or have never learned better. A LOT OF PEOPLE.

-someone from a part of this country where these things happen regularly, sadly
