Its because someone linked it in a recent thread |
Because there are kids with 3.8s this year? |
Thank you!! It’s still relevant!! |
|
Wanted to update:
My 3.84uw private who was admitted to 3 T20 this year in RD. All very possible. Strong EC achievement with national level accomplishments may have helped, along with strong fit to undersubscribed major. GL!! |
| My dc who attends a big 5 and has similar stats got into 3 top 10s. It’s totally doable with the right ECs. |
| My 3.86 from a Big3 has mostly rejections (a single top 25 acceptance) despite having fantastic extracurriculars, great essays, etc. I'm honestly wondering if the recs weren't great. One of the teachers left the school after last year. |
Or choice of major: computer science, business, engineering, etc. |
Nope. Applied for humanities. |
Gosh, I’m sorry. Do you feel like the CCO steered you wrong and/or this was just a really tough year for college admissions? |
Same for my kid (also NMF, 36, very involved, genuine interests and great attitude). CCO assures us the recs were good and that my kid just doesn’t meet any “institutional priorities.” I think several similar friends are in the same boat and a bit disappointed. I’m sorry your kid had a similar experience. Hope they land at a fantastic school and hit the ground running. |
Did your kid ED? What was the major? What was the application persons/tagline on how your kid tied all of the varied ECs together? I sometimes think kids with extremely cared interests who are well rounded get screwed bc they look like they do everything and nothing. If that makes sense? And well-rounded kids absolutely need to ED bc they won’t standout in RD. My 3.8 purposely omitted a bunch of ECs that would make DC look well rounded and focused only on the ones that supported the narrative and niche major. Had a lot of (surprising) success. |
Did the ECs support the major? Was someone else from your HS applying to same colleges with similar but stronger profile? The key is figuring out how to make your kid stand out in the applicant pool and it looks like that did not happen. |
Which ECs? |
Our school does not limit apps and does not give any info as to how many kids are applying where. The unhooked 3.8s really get screwed for top20s. |
This should be shouted from the rafters. |
