Let me guess, the nanny, housekeeper who shops for you, and gardner are all ok expenses? Not like you shop for yourself or do much else.

Jeez. DP with a similar HHI and we absolutely do not have any of these things. Weekly cleaning service, occasional nanny, not even a landscaping service. I don’t know how you think we could possibly afford 3 full time professionals paid in post tax income.

I hope you don’t go around saying things like this in public. We make a quarter of what you do and consider ourselves extremely comfortable. Pity the poor $800k householder!

DP. You do realize how expensive it is to have one full-time employee? With benefits and everything. Then x3?

Could you pay 3/4 of salary and benefits for an household employee?

My point is that no one wants to hear about a person who makes almost a million a year whining about their financial constraints. I mean, the first $800k person said they couldn't afford having food delivered to their house. That is utterly preposterous. They may not prioritize food delivery, but it is entirely within their financial means to do so.

Another way of saying this is:
Fools and their money are soon parted.

Did a $454 two cart order for Instacart on Wednesday and zero tip!

We have a local forum list of non tippers where we no to not take or decline the order.

There’s a catch though for people if they pay with WIC or EBT for example they cannot tip with that card on file. Cash is also rare for some to have on hand.

I'm sorry but people on welfare should not be wasting it on a luxury service - I would hope it is banned entirely

Or maybe they should have delivery fees waived.

No need to punish people because they are struggling financially.

Why would grocery stores, which are in the private sector, do that? Why would apps like UberEats do that? They aren’t charities. They have zero incentive to.

Could be subsidized by govt.

I hope not. The SNAP benefit is already too high—it should be lower with the rest of the current amount going toward housing programs.

Too high?

You sound clueless. Go buy groceries for a family of four for a year and let us know how that goes.

We have an obesity epidemic. Going to the grocery store is good exercise.

If people are receiving the max SNAP benefits then they have some challenges that probably make it difficult to get to the grocery store.

No need to punish people because they are struggling financially.

It's really disgusting how some people like to punch down.

Or they are lying about their income. Signed, someone on SNAP

Why would the government want to encourage people to buy overpriced mediocre takeout food and pay high delivery fees plus tip? If anything they should discourage blowing the limited funds that way.

SNAP doesn't cover prepared, hot food. Just groceries.

More ignorance. Maybe you should learn about our government benefits before you shet all over the people who receive them.

Someone on SNAP here, one can get grocery delivery using EBT card via DD

1. It's not a job. It's a contract. 30 minutes approx. The apps pay them a small fee for accessing your request. That money is not enough to pay them for the service you request.

If someone takes their personal vehicle, drives to the store , uses a pcard to get $150-500 worth of groceries , shops the items, bags them, loads them up , hauls them up stairs etc. the batch fee does not cover the extra work.

I think this is a really important point. Doordash and similar do not hold themselves out to be employers. They “contract” with delivery people, paying them a small fee and taking a large profit. This is not a situation where “the employer” should pay them more, because there is no employer.

Then don’t enter contracts with them then!

If a tip was required, it would be part of the invoice. I don’t tip bait, I let people know in advance the tip is $0. I’m upfront there will be zero extras for doing your job. Don’t get mad when the tip is $0, because I literally typed in $0 in advance, so you’d be aware!

I’m a nanny and I can guarantee my job is 800x harder than yours and no one tips me! Just do your job and be grateful if and when someone does tip.

So the app is paying me not to tip! What a deterrent!

Are they not being delivered because you offered no tip?

No, it gets delivered, it just takes a little longer sometimes.

Thank you! That’s what I meant, yes.

“A little longer” lol. I’ve worked with companies on this space. If you place orders at night an hour or two before restaurants close, deliveries often get canceled. can seek out a $5 credit if you call/chat CS--after you spend 10-15 minutes negotiating with the rep. The 0 to 50 cent tippers are often the same people who pull scams like falsely reporting missing items, so companies don't put any effort into keeping them.

UberEats service is the worst in the business and fees are higher than other companies, which is why they're willing to give up $5 for late drops without a fight.

Has never happened to me. Still not tipping!

I noticed you didn’t answer this part “ The 0 to 50 cent tippers are often the same people who pull scams like falsely reporting missing items, so companies don't put any effort into keeping them.”

Do you let your restaurant server know up front you won’t be tipping? Do you really think so high of yourself that you look down on those who work in the service business.

Safeway shoppers do not get tips. They are Safeway employees. The delivery people do.

I always tip 5% of my grocery order. I know my delivery people. I have my groceries delivered when I know I will be home and I give the delivery folks goodies i have baked. They love it and expect it now and know me by name.

I think the drivers can see how much they are being tipped in advance.

If I had to deliver I would do Safeway.

Similar to seeking $12/hour people to do landscaping work, or folks who seek nannies for $12/hour to pick up kid from school, do homework, make dinner for $36/day (3 hours). You are all cringe

and have the gall to expect them to install/uninstall care seats every day!

Foreigners are the worst for tipping. Best are the folks working for tips.

+1

It’s a service industry job just like waitressing and you know it I guess you don’t tip them either.

There is no way I wouldn’t tip DD—too scared of what they’ll do to my food if I don’t tip.

I’ll pay whatever the market will bear. If someone will clean for $8/hour, that’s their prerogative.

Anyone who takes an $8 an hour job is almost certainly going to steal from you or worse. Nobody can live on $8 an hour in DC.

If you are having a service deliver food or groceries in the pouring rain or anytime really and you don’t tip the person doing the actual work and not tipping, you are a horrible person.

Can’t afford to tip…get off your lazy fat arse and do it yourself.
