Why do people think it's okay to let their dog shout at people who walk by?

The spring peepers are out singing every night, now that the weather is nice. They are rather loud.

I've asked them to tone it down but so far they have refused.

Same reason people think it’s on to let their cats take dumps in my yard. They’re jerks.

Wait, but I got the dog to be a guard dog. I mean, I have trained my dog to stop barking when I say sit, like if a neighbor we know walks by, and he knows now to not bark at dogs on our walks or if I'm with him and I am friendly to someone. But I got the dog to be like a living alarm - isn't that their job? He doesn't bark all the time, but if he sees someone at my front door or elsewhere, he barks, and that's why I have him. He lies in my hallway outside our bedrooms at night and I consider him our second alarm.I am honestly confused about this post.
