Do you give all the school supplies at once or dole it out over the school year?

First time K parent here. Just curious. The teacher has the kids each bringing 4 boxes of 8 primary color crayons-for example. Do I give all 4 boxes at once or send DD in with one box to start? Does all the things I'm supplying go into a classroom kitty or are they for her to use (ie--do I label anything)?

I label every school supply bought that I can, and only buy one of anything that comes in a pack - crayons, pencils, etc.

For K- they are most likely for communal use. Just send them in all at once, so the teacher can store them and get them as needed. Ks do most work in small groups and don't have desks, so where would they store individual supplies.

Yes, another child might use something you purchased.

I buy for my child only and never buy 2/3 of the crap on that list. I refuse to support half of the unwashed in this county.

00:15, why is your DC attending a school with the unwashed? Surely you can find a nice private school without anyone you wouldn't want to "buy for." Or maybe you should be asking if homeschooling is right for you.

OP, they're doled out over time as needed, and don't worry about labeling K supplies. Have a great start to the school year!

So for K (mont co) I shouldn't send "special" pencils that my DD picked as they will be redistributed?

No don't send special pencils or other differentiating type things in the early grades. It really doesn't help the class. If you want to buy some special pencils, make it for his special work zone at home.
