After you defrost chicken...

How long do you have before you must cook it? I thought it was within 24 hours, but is it OK to wait another day or 2?

(I should add that it has been marinating in spices/oil since last night, but I'm not going to be able to cook it until tomorrow)

The longest I ever waited was approx. 36 hours...we didn't get sick or anything

Hard to say for sure because not all chicken is equally fresh when in the store. To be safe, I wouldn't go past 24 hours.

When you bring the chicken home (non-frozen), it will last about 2 days. Once you freeze it and thaw it, you should use within 24 hours:

I can leave chicken in the fridge for 24 hrs and its sitll not totally defrosted. I think you have at least 24+ hrs from when its totally defrosted, not from when you took it out of the freezer.

OP here- thanks. I should probably toss it- by tonight it would be 48 hours since it totally defrosted.

Op I think if it's been marinating (which is slowly cooking it) it doesn't last as long as if it were just defrosted.
