We're going to Disney World with extended family in October. We will definitely need a stroller for 1.5 yo child but wondering if we need to bring the Sit and Stand stroller so the almost-4 child can get an occasional break. I would prefer to not lug the Sit and Stand but just an umbrella stroller for the infant but if the double is necessary I'll take it.
Advice? |
They have strollers for rent at Disney World. The selection is plentiful. |
You'll most likely need a stroller for your 3 year old. I could've used one myself. But I'd just rent their double stroller at Disney. It's so much more convenient. They are also very low to the ground (kind of like a wagon) and so it's easier for the kids to get on and off by themselves. There will be a lot of getting on and off the stroller. Also, they have a stroller parking area for almost all the rides - and you'll feel better leaving a rental than your own stroller. |
Tip: bring a bandana and tie it to your rented stroller so you know which one it is. |
If anyone cares, Disney just increased their stroller rental fees for a double to something around $24/day. In Orlando, you can rent a CAR for $24/day... If it were me, I'd bring my own, or simply buy a new one in Orlando and donate it to Goodwill or leave it for mousekeeping staff to take home. |
And yes, your older child will be exhausted (read: whiny and slow-walking) and will NEED to be in a stroller. I would go with a side by side (maybe a Maclaren or Aria?) so she's not sitting on a hard platform seat with no support or ability to fall asleep in the stroller. |
good tip! thanks! |
I plan on renting a double jogging stroller from a baby gear rental company, b/c we will need it outsideof disney too.
I am a Disney expert, so let me know if you have any other questions! (Been there dozens of times; husband was in the Navy stationed in Orlando) If you haven't already, you need to book the princess parties asap (unless you are anti-princess!) Have fun. |
Acutally, just called Disney and their stroller prices are even higher now. A double stroller is now $31 per day ($27 for multiple days). Crazy. We were going to rent but that is such a rip off that we are bring our own. |
Wow - at that price I can take my current one and buy a new double if I need to. I thought the ease of having it there was worth it. This way we will have the stroller with us at the airport with us.
I am going down in December and might just bring an old double umbrella and leave it there when I am done. |
BRING THE STROLLER.
The rentals are hard plastic adn extremely uncomfortable - also don't have storage!!!. You will need your own stroller - believe me. |
I must be sleep deprived because I read that reply about the bandana and I thought it said bring a BANANA. HA. And I was thinking, why on earth a banana? Why not something more practical? Or some other fruit? Ha ha ha. |
Be sure to save your receipt so you can get another stroller for free if/when someone decides to take yours at 8pm, at night at the back of the park, so they can wheel their tired kids out. This happened to us and I was not happy. I didn't have the receipt and couldn't find the closest rental spot to get a replacement and ended up carrying my 4 1/2 year old all the way out of the park. As I walked I noticed a lot of strollers with missing name tags. The "thieves" would simply remove the name tag and take the stroller. |
Regarding the thieves - that is where the Bandana (or Banana) comes in handy. People do not usually take something that has a marking - rather they take something that looks like everything else so that they can use the - OH Sorry excuse. |
My kids are 5 & 7 and we were at Disney this summer for a week. Two days we actually broke down and rented a double stroller -- the best 2 days were were there! They are certainly old enough to walk, but the park is big and the day is long... Cost being no object, I would have rented one every day we were there. |
