Travel time to Fenwick/Bethany?

Reading the OBX thread got me thinking. Several friends recommend leaving very early but DH and I are of the mindset to leave around 9ish, stop for lunch before the bridge, kill a good bit of time, then head over. We can't get in to the house until after 4pm. Well, that's not entirely true. We have the keys but aren't supposed to go until 4pm to allow time for cleaning. Any idea how long it takes to get across the bridge? And what about the path to Fenwick? We are staying off of 54 on the bay. Should we take 54 across or go down 20 to 54?

| We did this trip two weeks ago - we left after lunch (around 1pm) and had a 5 hour drive to get to Bethany. |

| ..and I meant to mention that the back up was AFTER the bridge...not before. |

| Eh, not horrible then. I think we'll just plan on mid-morning and stop for lunch before we cross the bridge. Hopefully the kids will go to sleep in the traffic. |
