I have been fighting with our insurance company (UHC) because although Shady Grove Fertility is considered in network, their andrology center is considered out of network. Is anyone else in a similar situation? This means any preparation my husband needs for IUI or IVF won't be covered even though an in network physician orders it? This makes no sense to me.
do you mean surgery or just a semen analysis?
Semen analysis, sperm wash-anything that would need to be sent off to andrology. I wanted to see if there was a way around this and/or if anyone else has run into this. I realize we are lucky to have some coverage but I'm frustrated because there doesn't seem to be a way around it.
That's weird- can you call SG and find out if there was a mistake in the way it was billed? We have MDIPA (UHC) and I was definitely given the impression my husband's analysis was paid for. We paid out of pocket for freezing and are authorized for ICSI.
I know this was awhile ago but we are faced with the same issue. My husband was referred by his urologist for his semen analysis and the charge by shady grove is $150. We decided to just eat the cost because we need that to even kick off the process for preauthorization. It's a frustrating process all around but hoping it will be worth the aggravation in the end. BTW, did you end up getting the cost covered later by submitting a claim?
I missed this one the first time around, but I was at SG at the same time frame(8/12) with the same insurance company (UHC) and I had no issues. We had everything tested and went through 2 cycles of IVF. All of it was covered.
Is he on your plan? If not, what does his plan cover. But yes, in general, United is a "never pay" company. Your plan can say all kinds of things but they'll try to weasel out every time.
