Provera

Anonymous
I went of BCP at the end of May - had my first period 35 days later.... it's now been almost 70 days with no period and no Ovulation (I've been temp charting and OPKs).

Called the doc and she suggested I take provera = 10 days straight for the same 10 days every month ie - if I start it tomorrow, I take it for 10 days then again Oct 6 for 10 days, etc....

She said I should get my period sometime within those 10 days. And, may be just want my body needs to get it back into cycle.

Anyone else taken this?

I have taken provera in the past during my days of annovulation. I was pretty text book when I was on it, in that after the 10th pill, I would start my period 3 days later. I experienced no side effects from it, whatsoever. I think it's a pretty common drug to go on.

I did not ovulate on it, however. It was determined down the road that I had PCOS and that was causing my annovulation. I went on metformin and about a year later I started ovulating on my own with the help of met. 2000mg extended released did the trick.

Hope that helps!

op here - thanks!
i have PCOS -- although, i got fairly regular some how or another several years ago, conceived three times (only carrying one to term). i went on BCP after my DS was born to help regulate my cycle (and b/c we didn't want another one too soon). SO - now that i have come off it's obvious that i am not ovulating.. i'm just hoping that maybe provera will give me a period, clean me out and then i can get back into place and ovulate again.

i think i was on metaformin years and years ago and i remember that made me sick sick sick to my stomach.... ugh

thanks for your experience -- let's hope i'm text book too and this helps to give me a period... and then my body figures out how to start ovulating again!!!
