S/O DE Beaches - Heading to Fenwick Island/Bethany Beach

Looking for things to do. Have 2 young children, 4 and 18 mos. The Dewey thread has convinced me to stay away from there. I have toyed with going down to OC for a day but really staying in the Bethany area. Recommend activities, restaurants, best times of day to find parking, etc. Also, what's the deal with driving over the dunes? Is there a permit required? I checked out the Delaware Parks website but it looked like the permit was for fishing only? I have an SUV but don't have AWD, so I have ground clearance, is that ok or should I have AWD to drive on the beach?

Where were you planning to drive on the beach? I've never heard of people doing that around here, but that doesn't mean there isn't someplace you can do it.

As for places to hang out, I think you'll like Bethany and Rehoboth. Spend a day or two in Rehoboth so you can take the kids to Funland. You can find good parking in Bethany if you get to the beach really early (before 10) or late (after 4).

You HAVE to be fishing to drive on the beach. You can't just do it for fun.

Definitely funland. also, at the bottom of Fenwick is a waterpark that is really for little kids - a lazy river, small slides, baby pool with little fountains, etc. We went with 3YO and 10 MO and had fun.
