You are extremely Catholic. |
Your husband is a member of the Lincoln Project and worked for Pres. George H.W. Bush and idolizes him. You were mostly apolitical all through your 20s working in public relations, your 30s as a SAHM with George (15) and Millie (17) while your husband worked at the WH and for various K Street places during the Obama years. You met at a wedding on Deer Island as your college roommate came from an old Boston family. He was there working. He is from Baltimore, and his family was proudly Democrats. He's the nostalgic type and saved the portraits of JFK and MLK that his grandmother displayed in her parlor. You find that endearing. You became political in 2016 after Trump was elected. It turns out you are a feminist. You and Millie bonded a lot over that -- you taught her how to knit a Pussy Hat and you both attended the Women's March. George didn't go, but he also didn't mercilessly make fun of his sister as he normallly does. He is playing football now and you are thankful because maybe it means he'll spend a little less time on video games. Your husband was late to the show in waking up to the Trump disaster but your marriage has really strengthened when he came around to the disaster that Trump was. You now communicate better. Millie is thinking about doing journalism. She's got her Irish grandma's good looks and your strong legs. |
Btw, this is a NP -- actually old poster-- I used to contribute to the old thread. Just to clarify that I am not the SAHM (whose posts I have been enjoying

Ha thanks for helping out - I can’t keep up! I like that you also go for back story and shine a soft light on our collective weak spot - our children. Yah our different styles are probably as obvious as my tendency to nuclear glow sunburn. I aim for implausible plausibility with a few DMV jokes thrown in. Also what makes this area interesting is the unlikely mix of diverse Americans hailing from different states and mosaic of expats from all over. DMV SAHM having a little fun 😜 |
Colby (Norse for swarthy person’s settlement) Noah (Hebrew form Noach, which means rest or repose) Your family are salt of the earth types from Culpeper County, Virginia. Your husband served in the military and works in King George so that his sons can grow up in the area he loves near his kind parents. Your parents live by and help as much as you work full time as a teacher. Your family hosts massive pot luck Thanksgiving parties on a farm near the Rappadan River where extended family, neighbors, new immigrants, and anyone who is lonely is welcome to attend. Your families are both Episcopalian and practice radical hospitality within a conservative Virginian culture. Your sons are fraternal twins but have very different personalities and aptitudes. You want them to grow up feeling secure and connected but also aim to raise all American boys. They have been playing sports, especially little league baseball since an early age. You are big Baseball fans and Colby’s name is a nod to Colby Lewis and Colby Rasmus. There are no other Noah’s in your family but you both really liked the name. Plus Noah Syndergaard was a pitcher for the NY Mets and the footballer Noah Jackson played for the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Plus you like that Noah is easy to pronounce in many different languages. Colby and Noah are good mates and have many friends despite being so different as their family has taught them to welcome and respect all kinds of people. Even the neurotic, awkward, mentally-unwell and obese relatives are embraced with love and a stiff drink at family events. |
| This is such a cute thread. Good job! |
your friends talked behind your back when you named your kids these very traditional, old fashioned names. You couldn't throw a Skylar in there? |
Personally, I like these names as they are comforting :/ like drinking a mug of hot chocolate with hands wrapped in hand-knitted mittens in front of a slow burning fireplace in a bucolic cape cod house. Too busy now but will offer an unlikely, but not unkind, back story later on. SAHM 😃 |
