TTC and I am using the Clear Blue fertility monitor. Sex several times this week around the surge (day 13 on the nose - I've always been pretty textbook with a 28 day cycle and day 14/15 ovulation (two prior pregnancies were both conceived around week of 14 / 15.) So I got the surge on Thursday, 13 dpo, another peak day and a high day and now low days. Fertility friend says I'm just 2 days past ovulation but I'm not temping so I'm using OPK as the determining factor. I woke up this morning feeling tiny bit crampy and about a half an hour ago had some spotting. Interwebs have both promising and hope-squashing info about possibility of implantation bleeding so early.
I've NEVER had any breakthrough bleeding before, I've no reason to suspect fibroids or cysts, etc. But, I am 39, so that could most certainly be a factor - something new going on due to my age. We've just really started TTC, this is only month two and the first month we didn't really try too hard. But we do generally have a good deal of sex, so it's not terribly likely that all of this sex caused bleeding or anything (plus, no sex yet today). Thoughts? Any positive outcomes? I promise I'm not obsessing.......yet! |
| I had this type of bleeding a few months after going off the Pill. The first 2-3 months were normal 28ish day cycles and then I started bleeding on Day 22-23 of the next cycle. Weird for me too since I never had this happen when going off the Pill in the past. The gyn said it sometimes takes longer to get back to normal when going off the Pill as you get older. |
OP here. Thanks for responding. I actually was not on the pill or any other hormonal birth control - we were using condoms while avoiding pregnancy. |
| I had implantation bleeding with two of my four children. The second and the third child. |
Similar situation for me too except I started bleeding on day 21 though I'd been normally 31 days without a miss for years. Doc said age could be a factor. |

Probably not. Your surge was on Thursday which means you ovulated on Friday. Assuming the egg met the sperm, it takes 24 hours for fertilization to occur. The fertilized egg then takes another 3-4 days to enter the uterus. Some women have implantation bleeding, but if you ask them when, I doubt they would say it was 2 days after ovulation.
The dreaded 2week wait sucks. Fingers crossed for the result you want. |
| I had really early implantation bleeding w/ my son. I think I was 4 days past ovulation. It lasted for 5 days though until I got a positive pregnancy test, so perhaps it was hormone related instead of implantation. |
Ain't getting old grand? |
OP here. NO!
|
| I had bleeding as a result of ovulation (the cervix can be sensitive during that time). I also had spotting the previous month which was actually a 'period.' Based on your description its hard to tell! Either your estimated ovulation is off or your cycle is off, etc. Whatever it turns out to be, good luck! |
| I had a tiny bit of bleeding at implantation with both kids. It was 2 days after sex, in both cases. |
OP here. If I ovulated Thursday or Friday, it doesn't seem likely that I'd spot (very light spotting, one smear of red then pink on toilet paper over about 1.5 hours or so) 48 - 60 hours later if it were ovulation. Plus, how unusual that it's never happened before? So maybe my CBEFM was incorrect about my surge? Because I got the surge thursday early AM. As for sex, that really seems unlikely, too, both because it's never happened to me in about 2 decades of frequent sex and also because we actually didn't have sex at all in the 24 hour period before the spotting. I guess if I'm NOT pregnant, part of me is like, well, what's that about? Maybe I'll never know but if it happens again, I'll contact my OB.
I saw some threads elsewhere suggesting that it's possible, but I get why science says not so likely. Anyway, fingers crossed! |
| Fingers crossed for you, OP. I am the PP who had IB with my son at around 4 DPO. I remember thinking (and hearing through an anonymous forum) that it couldn't possibly be IB b/c it was so early. And then I got a BFP about 5 days later. Again, I think mine might have been related to hormone levels or something. But who knows? Keep us posted!! |
Hey there, thanks for this. OP here. I don't have many pregnancy symptoms (compared to last month when a bit of a stomach bug really had me thinking "nausea?") but I have been going to bed at 10 every night, unusually early for me. Anyway, I'll probably test on Monday (10 DPO) with a wondfo. I've been on vacation so I haven't really been obsessing much. |
| What was the result, OP? Hoping you got your BFP! |
