LLM in Global Health at Georgetown?

Anonymous
Does anyone have any experience or first-hand knowledge of this relatively new llm program? Wondering about reputation of the program and career prospects. Thanks.

IMO, an LLM is a waste of money unless you have cash to spend on the LLM and your living expenses and won't have to borrow any money.

I definitely see that point, but I'm kind of desperate to make connections in this field, and my legal background is not at all health related. Definitely a fair point though.

LLM in tax or government contracts (provided you plan to have your career in this area) are probably the only two fields worth spending that kind of time and money on an LLM. Although nothing is a guarantee. I know someone with an LLM in tax from GULC and he could not find a job. In debt and not working in anything tax related.

I agree. And I have an LL.M from GULC

Good to know - thanks.

I have a colleague who completed this program and used the degree to switch fields. She may have been unusually successful though.

It's a great program with very well-connected faculty. MOST, tho not all, LLMs at GULC are foreigners, or grads from low-ranked schools trying to reinvent themselves. Whether it has value for you depends on your background and goals.
