When to drop crib mattress for baby?

Anonymous
DS can sit up unassisted but is wobbly. He cannot get into a sitting up position by himself. Baby has started to roll over and sleep on his belly but can't seem to roll back over by himself and sometimes gets "stuck". DS is also scooting a little backwards on the floor but not in crib (that I know of). This morning he was on all fours rocking back and forth. I want to wait as long as possible to drop the mattress because I'm not very tall and actually have trouble reaching all the way down in the crib to get him but of course, want to do what is safest. Any advice?

Sounds to me like you might need to drop the mattress pretty soon. Definitely do it if DC can get into sitting position. They don't notify you of their next development and it all comes very quickly.

You should drop it now. We were in the same situation with DS doing the rocking back and forth. Two weeks later, he was crawling. Two weeks after that he was pulling up on the crib rail. I would not take chances given that you are so close to him pulling up, but one of our family members had a child go over the rail and break an arm, so maybe I am overcautious.

Agree with PP. Sounds like it's time to do it.
