If your child wears hearing aids, when did you stop using the clips that attach to their clothing?

When did you feel confident that your child would not take his/her hearing aids out anymore and lose them?

How old is your kid? My kid is 5 and wear clips, I was wondering the same thing. I think he will be wearing clips until he can put in his hearing aids himself. My kid has only had aids for a year.

My kid is 5 and has been wearing his aid for a few months. Got it when he was 4. No clips. Our audiologist never mentioned clips to hold it to his clothes. They stay well in the ear so clips don't seem necessary.

It depends on the child. Once they are old enough to hand them to you instead of dropping them/letting them fall you can probably stop using them.

The clips are to keep them attached to clothing in case they fall out or are pulled out of his ears. It minimizes the risk of losing the hearing aids. They don't actually keep the hearing aids in their ears.

I can see using them with toddlers, but older children probably don't need them.

It depends on your child. My 9-year-old, who has been wearing them for just over a year, stopped wearing the clip a few months in because he was being surprisingly responsible with them, both while in his ears and while putting them away. His same-age friend, who has been wearing them 4 or 5 years, still wears the clip because she's constantly fussing with her aids and they sometimes fall out.

At first I was nervous about letting him go clip-free, but I had sought guidance from his teachers and they assured me he was doing fine with aids. (Of course, it helped that they had someone to directly compare him to.)

Thank you for this post, I am not the OP, but a mom of a 5 year old with hearing aids.
