Yes. There was that crazy dude who shot up the Lutheran church a few years back. Oklahoma City. The attacks against abortion doctors. Some folks argue that the Tea Party a more mainstream expression of the same basic radicalism. Is it a backlash?

Yes but they will mostly be judged as extremist or crazy. The obvious parallel is with Muslim terrorists but we will continue to blame the religion and the group as a whole.

Not if you count by number of victims, which certainly seems like a relevant consideration.

I doubt even that. The KKK alone probably tops the chart. I think the recorded lynchings alone was up as high as 150 a year. And that doesn't include the countless others whose deaths would not be recorded or attributed to them. And all of the Aryan/skinhead violence is probably counted as individual hate crimes.
