Rocker Recliner

we have a small room for the baby and someone has HIGHLY recommended I get a rocker recliner so that I can sleep as well when the baby is having a bad night. Would appreciate feedback on whether others found the rocker recliner necessary or a waste? Space is an issue for us.

I love mine, but I have to say I barely use it anymore now that DD is a toddler...she won't sit still long enough to even read a story in it! However, I used it a ton during the end of my pregnancy when sleeping was tough, and also for BFing and rocking to sleep for the first year plus some.

Total waste of space and money. I would never want to sleep in my rocker/recliner and we have a nice one. If it came to that, we just brought baby into bed. We have a tiny room for our DD and now the rocker is in the way of her toys. Wish we never bought it! If you are still unsure, you can always wait. It is not a necessity on day one.

I. Love. Mine. (And FWIW, DS's room is tiny too.)

When my little guy was an infant and partial to marathon nursing sessions, I dozed off many a time -- some days, this was some of the only sleep I got.

Now that he's going through the storms of toddlerhood, he often requests a bit of rocking to help calm down and recenter.

I'd definitely get something with a recline function over a glider.

OP here-Any advice on where's the best place to buy find a rocker recliner?

It really depend on what kind of rocker recliner you want. We had a Dutalier and like it a lot but as the baby got bigger, I didn't like that the arms were exposed wood and he could knock is head (he was a thrasher sometimes). Great Beginnings is a good place for all Dutaliers under the sun. For this next baby, we opted for a fully upholstered recliner/rocker by Lazy Boy. I already love that chair. You could go to any furniture store for that.

we have a LaZBoy and it was the BEST purchase we made. We had a nursery that was too small for a futon and our daughter was a terrible sleeper. We spent MANY nights sleeping in that thing until our daughter was 2 years old! Now, we have a nice recliner for our family room. It was a good purchase for us.

We got a fully upholstered Dutalier at Buy Buy Baby & it rocks! Our DD's room is very small, but we plan to move the chair to our room or the guest room in the future - it will be an attractive comfy chair for reading. It was well worth every penny!

Agree with La-Z-boy recommendation; we got one with #2 -- #1 needed to be held a lot at night, and we didn't have one -- and it was possibly the best purchase we could have made. #2 also needed a lot of nighttime holding/nursing, and I was so glad to have something comfortable to sleep in. We actually kept it in our room, which was nice psychologically and meant that I could easily ask my husband to help if I needed it.

La-Z-boys aren't particularly attractive, but the stores tend to have good sales, so you can get one for a decent price and then resell. That's what we're planning to do once #2 is done nursing.

I have two Dutailier reclining glider rockers with ottomans. Why two? Because DS1 (age 5) became attached to his and calls it the "reading chair" when we use it for our nightly stories. I spent many a night asleep in that chair when he was a baby with him on my chest. So, when expecting DS2, I got another. I figured it was worth the expense if we were going to keep them for a decade each. I do highly recommend getting the ottoman, as it makes it much more comfy for snoozing. I still fall asleep in it a few times a week while nursing the baby. Both of my kids had reflux issues and had to be kept upright after nursing, so it was never practical for me to nurse them while lying down in bed. The chair was a good compromise way to sleep and keep their heads elevated.
