While there is some reclassing on all of the teams it’s way overstated. ML has been carrying a near double reclass for years. The hawks only have a couple of reclasses and of those all but one simply started kindergarten late. It’s the coaching on the DMV teams that the problem. On ML Cab is just not a great coach for older kids ( he is surprisingly good with younger kids though). On NL Dave is simply stretched too thin. I have no idea what DCE’s problem is but you can see it in their defense and clears that they are struggling. |
Very interesting to hear about ML Cab being good with younger kids. I can say that from what I have seen from DCE and NL is that they have too many kids. |
I guess True will be in the position to scoop up all of these kids |
True Maryland has become a good program after scooping up players. Other DMV area clubs better put their acts together or True will eat their lunch soon. |
Is True getting good local coaches? That is a big draw and what really will draw good players |
True NOVA gets a lot of the coaches and assistant coaches from the better Fairfax schools. I am curious if there favoritism for their high school players. |
Which "better fairfax schools" coaches and what year groups are they coaching? |
Any word on a VLC 28 restart? If not they are missing the window |
Yeah, curious also. To the extent that I know of any "better fairfax school" coaches affiliated with any club team, they are pretty much all with Top Caliber. |
Not sure where all coaches are affiliated (mix of public and virginia catholic plus Marymount)but the Hayfield varsity and Yorktown varsity coaches are True coaches. |
It is literally 10 days away from summer tournaments start to kick off. If VLC doesn't have a 2028 team at this point (and I've seen no mention of tryouts) they aren't going to have one for this summer. My guess is that they try to form one in the late summer for kids heading into HS. But, the fact that VLC has been unable to field 8th grade teams 2 years in a row, raises 2 issues: 1) I'm guessing a team will form for HS but will be basically spare parts from other teams; 2) I'd be very concerned if I was a parent of kid on VLC's 2029 team |
The plan was never to have a team for summer tournaments. Their plan is to hold summer tryouts in July and form a 2028 team for fall and continue through HS, at the same level as the 2026 and 2027 teams, which are very respectable in those classes. Best case is that they assign a good 2028 coach, and pick up most of the PVI freshman class, plus the Virginia based players on ML, NL, and DCE (some of whom are in the PVI class) and add in athletic kids from Loudon county who are not on one of the big three, and have a killer team. My son is a starter on one of the big three and we are sufficiently dissatisfied with all three of those programs that we would take a close look at VLC 2028 if they can pull that off. The worst case is that they never get organized, or they hold tryouts and only 10 or so kids show up, and they scrap the team. Either scenario is possible. |
There is enough dissatisfaction (and players) on all the top DMV teams for VLC to have a serviceable 28 team next summer. The question is who will coach. If it’s Dico it will probably work if not - it’s a problem. |
I don't know. Sounds a lot like hoping and praying that kids and parents make the same decision you want to make. And I have no problems with what you are doing. We are all trying to make the best decisions for our kids, family and life. But, in general hoping and praying isn't a plan. |
PP - I didn't say my son's plan is to quit his team and hope/pray that VLC materializes. I said that if they pull it off, then we would take a close look. |
