outside of a SW, what club teams don't have parent coaches? |
All clubs do but no parent should be coaching in these combine type events. |
| Why not? They are less serious and less important than the regular NGLL season |
| BLC has allows parent coaches- unfortunately |
Nearly all clubs have parent coaches, minus SW, who would do it otherwise? |
I'm shocked someone needs this question answered but because most parent coaches can not be objective. And these events cost $800 extra, require travel, and will have college coaches there when the girls are in 10th and possibly 11th grade. That's why. |

I remember being the parent of and 8th grader and thinking NGLL was important (and "serious"). Fun times. (At least we had predictions and debates about scores and relative strength.)
Three things are important at this point, having done this a couple of times. One, individual development of the player. Two, team development so you can play well in 9th grade to get a ranking that puts you in brackets that coaches watch in 10th grade and the recruiting summer. And three, getting into some of the important showcases so they invite you back in your recruiting year (don't listen to people who say Best in Class or Juniors Open doesn't matter until rising Junior summer; it does if you want an invite then.) |
| A parent coach is never completely objective...they play their child and their friends. Many good/decent players are hurt in the process. Have seen it over and over again. |
| Know of one professional coach that has completely turned the running of the games over to a parent. It is a disgrace. |
I have seen it too. Often stronger players than the coaches' kids see less time, are allowed less mistakes, given less opportunities. There's too many club teams now to have zero parent coaches but extra combines and events like them should stay away from parent coaches and parent evaluators all together. Plus - being a parent coach often assures their child a roster spot on these teams. Between the tryout fees and the $800 per player for each event they can get non parents to coach these things. |

| Say what you will about parent coaches but many teams would simply not have coaches without them. |
| There's good parent coaches, there's bad parent coaches. Teams that have non parent HC and parent AC is ideal. |
As an 8th grade parent, I can now look back and say NGLL has been a net negative. It’s Not all negative but it’s not set up to provide the best outcome for the players. It could be modified to have more productive outcomes but it clearly exists to generate revenue for the girls lacrosse industry under the guise of development. |
