| Anyone have any thoughts on Long Branch Elementary School located in Arlington, VA? We are considering purchasing a home that feeds into that school. Thanks so much! |
| Excellent school with strong ties to the Lyon Park and Ashton Heights neighborhoods. You will find plenty of neighbors with kids at the school. |
| Almost everyone in the neighborhoods (Ashton Hts and Lyon Park) goes to LB, so there is a very strong community feeling about it (when there were events there, our neighbors cooked dinners together etc). It is a very nice neighborhood school with strong teachers, nice diversity, music and arts programs, good after school programs, etc. Our children went there K-5 and were well prepared for the two different middle schools they attended. And because it is such a strong neighborhood school in a walkable neighborhood, it was great for the kids to feel like they belonged to something! Good luck! |
| If you look further north, you can get Swanson or Williamsburg MS. Jefferson MS is OK, but not great. |

My neighbors are really happy with the middle school, Jefferson. They lost a great principal to retirement last year, but she left the school in a great place. The school is also growing because of all the kids in Lyon Park and Ashton Heights.
Also, most kids in the neighborhood can walk to the elem, middle, and high school. |
It's not that close to W-L. Who are you kidding? |
If you live under 1.5 miles from the school you walk. Buses are provided for greater distances. So yes, Lyon Park and Ashton Heights kids walk to W-L except those near route 50 where there is a bus. |
My 6 year old rides his bike from Lyon Village to W-L for swim lessons and many neighbors (with kindergartners) walk to Science Focus every morning which is just a few short blocks from W-L. Ashton heights is even closer than we are to W-L. Now- no way we can walk to Swanson --but the others definitely! |

I love Lyon Village! My three year old walks over to the Lulelemon at the Clarendon Market Common all the time to buy her own clothes. The sales people all know her by name, and then she enjoys hanging out with her friends at the Cheesecake Factory! I love the fact that I don't have to drive her anywhere.

Hey d-bag, Lulelemon isn't in the Market Common. |
Lulelemon is in the Market Common II. |

The Lyon Village posts were in support of the person stating that Ashton Heights and Lyon Park were walkable to W-L. There was nothing stated that it was loved or great. That is all in your head, freak.
Apparently, the douchebag that is hater of LV also hates all of N.Arlington. I guess they are still bitter they didn't get the house because I know other reason why they would continue to open up posts about Arlington if they don't live there or want to live there. |
| SOL scores are good but not as high as other north Arlington schools. Might make for a less "intense" environment though. I've met Long Branch's principal and she seems a bit crazy, but people seem to love her and crazy seems to be the norm for elementary principals. |
I thought it was funny. People in Lyon Village often come across as smug and the reaction suggests they have no sense of humor, either. |
Long Branch's scores are actually on par with most of the other N Arlington schools like Taylor, Tuckahoe, and Ashlawn. But the scores are slightly lower than at Science Focus, Arlington Traditional, McKinley, and Nottingham. (according to the 2011 scores) |
