When I look up my home in the Montgomery County Schools locator, it says we are zoned for Downcounty Consortium. I had always heard we were in the Einstein district, but that a small number of students were able to go to a different public school because of the Downcounty Consortium. How many kids can use the Downcounty Consortium to get into a better school? Is it a safe bet? I'm really curious how it all works and we aren't sure whether to stay in this area of Silver Spring or not.

Every neighborhood has a base school, yours is Einstein, but there is a choice process to go to the other schools. Check capacity numbers at the one you want, perhaps that could tell you how likely it is to get into another one. |
http://gis.mcpsmd.org/gis/Publiclocator.asp This is the school assignment locator. Put in your address to find your base school. You are guaranteed a spot at your base school - but are NOT guaranteed first choice if you don't choose your base school. |
Exactly. We too are in the Einstein cluster and we love the school. No complaints at all. |
Problem with DCC is that the other options are not great either. (I'm in DCC.) |
Not great based on what? What experience do you have with DCC schools? |
