Arlington Women's Center/Dr. Masel

Does anyone here know if an U/S is standard at a first visit here?

Not in my experience. I went last month for my first visit at 9 1/2 weeks, and met with Dr. Crowther (who I loved). She did not do an ultrasound, and when I inquired, she said that would be at my next visit (3-4 weeks later). I was a little disappointed because I wanted to hear the heartbeat, but I ended up having one soon thereafter due to CVS testing. I didn't press for one, so I'm not sure if she (or Dr. Masel) would have done one in that circumstance, but it didn't sound like it.

It isnt, but they are more liberal than other practices in my experience. I was sent for an early U/S (7 weeks) both for dating and b/c of a prior M/C (I went in for a beta draw and only saw the nurse ,and she gave me the referral paperwork). And then when I went to see Dr. Masel for my 1st prenatal appointment (I was 9 and a half weeks then) I mentioned that a lot of my morning sickness and other symptoms had subsided and was worrying me, she took me across the hall so we could "peak" at baby and see that all was OK. A lot of places wouldnt have done that. While they have an U/S machine in their office, they only have a sonographer come in once a week (Wednesday afternoons) so those appointments fill weeks in advance. But they seem very willing to give a referral to go to a radiology center.

Thanks for the replies. I am hoping that Dr. Masel will take me for a peak-I am just worried because I am on Progesterone supplements, so I think a missed M/C is more likely with them...I am feeling queasy, so that's good!

She is fantastic and when I told her I had some cramping (also on progesterone) and was nervous at 10 wks she too took me across the hall for a peek. I think she likes to take a peek. She also did this later in my pregnancy when I told her that I thought the baby flipped. She is very understanding and it only takes a second. It is not standard practice there though.
