I'm having a really weird problem. For the last 5 years or so, about once a month, I have the sensation of not being able to breathe during sleep. I'll be deeply asleep, and it's like the signal from my brain to my diaphragm is not working properly. I'll be trying to take a breath, but unable to. I estimate this senation lasts about 10 seconds. I never actually wake up from these episodes but I remember them in the morning. I feel intense panic during these episodes. Lately, they have been more frequent. I am unsure of what this could be. I have read about sleep apnea, but I don't have any daytime tiredness and I think this only occurs once during the night. I sleep really well and feel well rested when I wake up. I'm also young and thin so those are also not risk factors for sleep apnea. Has anyone had anything like this? I'm going to see a doctor about this but in the meantime I'm starting to get worried.
