We live in Hyattsville near University of Maryland and are looking at private schools for DS who will be in K next year. We are NOT interested in Catholic/Christian schools (we're not Christian and it just doesn't work for us).
I don't want to drive all over the place -- so nothing in Bethesda/Rockville, etc. but I work near Capitol Hill, so Capitol Hill Day might work. I'm looking for some advice on other schools. It seems like there are the following options: 1. Friends Community School in College Park/Greenbelt 2. New Hope Academy in Cheverly 3. Capitol Hill Day School 4. Jewish Primary Day School of the Nation's Capitol Are there others that I'm missing? Something in Brookland? Others on Capitol Hill? 16th Street or Silver Spring somewhere? Thanks. |
| Lowell is at the tip of the District near downtown Silver Spring, just off 16th Street |
| That is all there is. Oddly enough, where the public schools are great, there are plenty of private schools. Where the public schools are bad, if you are not comfortable with Catholic, you are out of luck. (BTW: Friends is a Quaker school, so there will be some religion in the curriculum, although it is light.) |
| If you're willing to have your child bus, Sandy Spring Friends runs a bus right down Rte. 1. |
| I know that CHDS has a few families and faculty members from the Hyattsville area. I think it's a pretty easy commute. |
but the bus takes 45 minutes.... that would be 90 minutes in a bus each day. a lot for a little kid... |
