ECNL Academy is the old DA before DA folded in short order and left kids with no home.
Some clubs (like in NC) had an ECNL team and a Academy team because they were large clubs and could field both leagues.
When academy folded those teams merged into ECNL but retained their Academy so now these clubs have TWO teams- one ECNL and one ECNL Academy. Typically the Academy team is the stronger team when a club has 2 ECNL teams. The stupid thing is they play each other (duh). So this is why it makes no sense that ECNl forced a MYS/Brave merger when they have at least 2 teams in the midatlantic who have 2 ECNL teams (and the second team is typically ranked last in the conference). Those should have been on the cutting board first. A club should only have 1 ECNL team (the second team should be an RL).
